Guest guest
Hello, I have recently switched to Armour Thyroid medication. I have been on it a total of about 20 days. I was on .75 lev. before the switch then I stayed on the Lev. and added 1/2 grain Armour for about 10 days. Then my Dr. upped the medication to 1-1/2 grains Armour and no Lev. so I have been on that for about 10 days. I have not tested positive for Hashi's, just goiter, no RIA so I still have my thyroid. I felt great for the first 10 days and even for a few days after changing to complete Armour. My Dr. has me taking the whole dose in the morning and it didn't take many days to come to the conclusion that I need to change to twice a day because I feel like it " wears off " part way through the day. After a few days on full Armour I started feeling very sluggish, had some depression boughts, a lot of swelling in the hands and legs, I would develop a headache in the evening. Now I have a headache all the time. Very sore muscles. Can hardly walk around. They are sore to the touch as well. I even have had times with ringing in the ears. One of the strangest symptoms was a real horrible body odder after I exercised that lasted for a couple days. (Never smelled anything like it in my life) Seems to be gone now. I am very brain fogged also. I have never felt this bad before. Even before getting any treatment for my thyroid. I keep telling myself it is an adjustment period but every day is worse. I feel horrible. I don't think my body is taking kindly to the switch. The only other things I take are some Vitamins. What do you think I should do? My brain is so confused I need some very specific advice. I just can't get my mind around the problem. i can't get my mind around any problem. Thank you, Cluckymom
Guest guest
Hi cluckymom. This is Janie. First, you were RIGHT ON TARGET when you realized that you needed to dose twice a day. What DOES run out is the direct T3. T3 peaks in 2 hours, and then is back down in 4-5 hours. Thus, the need to multi-dose. I, for example, take 2 grains in the morning, one grain in the early afternoon, and another 1/4 grain at bedtime. You also need to be doing the Armour sublingually- -letting it slowly dissolve in your mouth. I put mine between my inner cheek and gums....and forget about it. It goes directly to your blood that way, and bypasses the acids in your gastric system, and the processing of the liver. Thus, you get more benefit. Next....the reason you are having those symptoms is that your hypo has returned on an inadequate dose, and it's time to raise your dose!! Your goal on Armour is to rid yourself of symptoms. In doing that, it will suppress your TSH (mine is .009) and your free T3 will be at the top of the range. It's important that your doc NOT get freaked out by your labs. I will post the NATURAL THYROID 101 after I send this. You need to read it. Janie > > I have recently switched to Armour Thyroid medication. I have been on > it a total of about 20 days. Guest guest
That is odd. Ringing ears is a definite sign of hypoT. Mine started ringing and I upped the dosage. No more problems.
