Guest guest
Hi Sam! That's a great suggeston about having a bone scan! Oddly enough, the first rheumy I saw asked me if I'd ever had one, and was surprised when I said I hadn't. He seemed to think that my regular doctor would have ordered one. Even so, this rheumy did NOT order one. Go figure! My mother developed rheumatoid arthritis when she was my age, maybe a bit younger. Both sides of my family have autoimmune/rheumatoid disorders. So, I'm prone. Off and on, I've had periods of time when I feel something systemic is definitely going on- things that wax and wane. All the doctors say fibro is not systemic. Would it be the same bone scan that would show osteoporosis, as well as perhaps RA, if that were " developing? " So sorry you and your husband have RA- BOTH. My word. How are you treating it? Thanks for the idea and I will mention it when I get around to making an appointment.
Guest guest
Hi a bone scan is different than a bone density test for osteoporosis..the bone scan shows all kinds of things but will show the acitivity within the bones and any inflammatory process…. my husband and I are being treated with the antibiotic approach to the disease.. www.roadback.org http://www.roadback.org/> is the organization run now by people who have been put into remission…dr brown is now deceased after successfully treating 10,000 people…he wrote the road back book about stories of people who had been treated with all the convetntional drugs..how ill they got and how one woman became an advocate for the NIH and appeared before the senate to get is approach accepted.. www.rheumatic.org http://www.rheumatic.org/> is the same protocol that is outlined… the sites are information intensive…. http://www.ra-infection-connection.com/ is a site representing a book written by a woman who had RA and is now in remission…it is for the intelligent reader.. obviously my husband and I place great merit in the infection connection from viral, bacterial or fungal sources… the protocols are explained rheumatic is the group that deals directly with the antibiotic approach to the disease…it is not a short term approach… Kathleen turner the actress just was diagnosed after 10 years..she is on this approach with celebrex and is now back on broadway… I have done 4 months of hard research in the bowels of the articles..to make determinations..to be proactive..to recognize aggressive treatment is the key to healing…. when I read web sites I also look at which drug company is sponsoring whom…. the two new drugs enbrel and remicade are almost performing miracles but the drug cannot be acquired as there is a production problem… there is also a group Rheumathritis that deals with the approach not using antibiotics.. the flow of information from these groups gives me great insight into the drugs used..the results and consequences… the criteria for diagnosing….it all flows each day… the bone scan will be a definitely good diagnostic tool… for us..ra runs through our body like a gyspy pac man hacking at our bones…sometimes the inflammation causes neuropathy in the ankles and wrists…that is painful… my advice is not to mention it in passing..it is wise you do your reading..in the groups you will see people who take the approach to their doctor but the medical community is divided…there is no money to be made in the antibiotic approach but with enbrel and remicade it costs 18,000.00 a year…it makes you think…. there is research out there for you to determine your treatment…it is prudent for you to also inform your doctor of what you will not take or what you will take… DMARDS a word you will come to appreciate..disease modifying drugs…those are what they will place you on…gold injections, plaquenil (an antimalarial) sulfasizine….methtroxate..a cancer drug…or if you qualify enbrel or remicade…iv infusions…which are quite amazing in their approach as people get their lives back or so they say…or the antibiotic approach… your first rheumy should have ordered the bone scan as should my first one also… but be proactive and informed….and aggressive in treatment…it can halt a lot of damage… as for my husband and I ….i am glad I am suffering with him and losing our hands together…for it is a hard disease to understand …I could never explain to anyone what my body goes through…though I pain at seeing his suffering..or anyones suffering for that fact…I also have fibro and myofacial pain but have never taken treatment as I am just learning from this group what others do for their fibro I am here anytime,,, Sincerely -bone scan Hi Sam!
