Dear Shirley,

I might drive my Doctors and nurses crazy, but I ask..ask.....ask......questions and more

questions about what the doctors and nurses are giving me. .....Even When I am in the Hospital, and they are hanging an I.V.........I ask what it is .....what the mixture is....as in what % per100cc.s , at what rate it is going into my body, what it is for, and should I expect any side effects., and WHAT side effects........and when I get a prescription filled, I always ask the Pharmacy if all the scripts, have a monograph included......sometimes , expecially if it is a medication that you take every month they will skip the monograph......then I have a journal that I keep up to date every day, and I take it to each doctor's visit and/ hospital stay.......I write everything down.

You never know how much this can help you and the doctors and nurses in the future. For instance I learned after many painful trials and errors on this last Hospital stay, that my veins cannot tolerate an I.V. infusion of Potassium of a mixture of more than .5cc of potassium per 100 cc.s Saline solution going into my veins per hr. Any faster than than and it would feel like they were injecting FIRE into my veins .....I MEAN IT REALLY Burned. ....I asked the doctor why, and he said that Potassium is so caustic, that a lot of peoples' veins just cannot tolerate it unless it is really diluted.

As I have a history of my potassium dropping suddenly, and my winding up in the Hospital with an infusion of Potassium.....I will save myself a lot of unnecissary pain. in the future.

Never let anyone put anything into your body untill you feel informed. Even if they huff and puff, and get pissey with you......as I have had them do...It is YOUR BODY !!

HELLO MY LUPIE FRIENDS ! I HAVE A QUESTION FOR SOMEONE AND HOPE I CAN GET An ANSWER ? MY RHEUMY DOCTOR TOLD ME SHE THINKS SHE IS GOING TO PUT ME ON An IV THING THAT TAKES 2 HOURS , IT IS SUPPOSE TO BE A LONG LASTING PAIN RELIEF ? BUT WHEN I ASK HER ABOUT IT SHE JUST SAY'S I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING SO DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT , YOU WILL FEEL BETTER ? SORRY BUT I AM ONE TO KNOW ABOUT THE HECK IS GOING IN MY BODY ? AM I CRAZY THINKING THIS ? OR SHOULD I JUST TRUST HER TO PUT WHAT EVER IN ME ? SO CONFUSED CAUSE I REALLY WANT TO FEEL BETTER . ANY HELP ?
