Guest guest
Hi Dick, Welcome to the group. I was diagnosed in 1989 but didn't find this group until 18 years later. I can't answer your question on Remicade because I've don't have an IBD and have never taken it, but many in the group have and will be along shortly. Its good to know you are not alone! Ian (52 PSC 89 I have had PSC for at least 25 years. At least that is the first timethe liver enzyme levels were found to be out of the normal range. Ihave small duct PSC. I have been on Remicade for about 9 months formy IBD and my last two blood tests show all of my liver enzyme levels in the normal range. I discussed this yesterday with my doctor duringmy routine visit, and he said there are no studies to his knowledgelinking Remicade to lower liver enzyme levels. So I am wondering if anyone else out there is on Remicade and have you noticed any change in your liver enzyme levels. Thanks in advance for your response. -- Ian Cribb P.Eng. Guest guest
Dick, Remicade is used for IBD to reduce the inflammation. Just thinking it might have the same effect on the inflammation caused by PSC and as I understand it, that is what causes the liver enzymes to increase. I am not a patient care person, but in my non-medical mind it makes sense. Guest guest
I have been on remicade since June 2008. I has done wonders for my UC. I almost feel normal on some days, others leave me constipated, seldom I have terrible days. I think it is a wonderful and definetly worth the 2-3 hours, I get infused every 6 weeks. My ALT and AST have been " normal " but my ALK (ALP) have been abnormal until my last blood draw. I get my blood drawn when I get remicade and I was a little itchy when I went in, turns out everything was elevated. My ALK (ALP) 479, AST 333 and ALT 256. Quite some time ago I was told that inflammation througout the body is related so when your UC is under control your liver can calm down and vise versa I hope this helps! I hope you are having as much success with the remicade as I am. My liver may be more messed up because of cca being suspect. Good luck!
