I just had to comment on this...remember my friend has the son going to

langer and he's only on 1 1/2 grains after 5 months - and of course....all those

supplements that he sells.

it remains unbelieveable to me too - that this doc wrote such a great book -

knowing all that hypo can cause - and yet he knows so little about treatment

of hypo.

hmmm....there's always that possibility. but he has written some other

things more in keeping with what he actually does re: nutrition and metabolic

status...so i do think he writes.

I think it's just basically not understanding much about treatment. He does

seem to recognize some low thyroid symptoms that others don't. But even in

his book, he states that most folks don't need more than 2 grains of Armour -

and he bases this on saying the thyroid gland STORES 2 grains of Armour -

seemingly forgetting that it can produce more as neeed, etc.

yea - like you, i was totally amazed with the book. totally.

and then i heard about how he actually was - holding back on the armour and

pushing his supplements and NOT TESTING FREE T3....and well....what's the point

of recognizing low thyroid conditions if you're not gonna treat it properly?

yes...that's a good book for really talking about how hypo can cause a

variety of psychiatric problems.

But I made notations in that book in several places...putting big

" X " s...because it had wrong info. stuff about the TSH and treatment stuff.

*sigh*.....it's just hard to find a doc who knows about all this. and yes,

very scary that he's teaching endos.

Perhaps the book was ghost written? Lots of professionals (not just doctors)

hire ghost writers to do the research and write the books, then put the pro's

name on as author. It buys them credibility... and though I am a writer and

know lots of people who do ghost write, I have always thought this potentially

shady or at least misleading. But it's perfectly legal and very common.

Cindi, you know the book, by Ridya Arem, I think it's called The

Thyroid Solution? He's the dr who teaches these up and coming Endo's

at Baylor College of Medicine here in Houston, yet I hear reports a

lot that he does not test the Free's? Scary thing is that he's

teaching the endo's.

Maybe he's also too concerned with selling his own supplements over treating as

I read his book and he does not test Free T3's. The only thing I thought

worthwhile in his book was the " mental/emotional " side of thyroid problems.

I don't think he is teaching much worthwhile and he pushes the synthetics.

I agree. When I started reading about the synthetics, I wondered why it

was on the list. The info on the " mental/emotional " is the ONLY thing

worth reading in the book. That he does do a good job with that part.

Cindi-

I really thank you for this. I think the " crazy-making " that is such

a big part of " medicine " is very damaging in and of itself. Nevermind

that they are committing finacial rape and NOT helping people recover

their health.

I do wonder what will come to light, eventually, about the Big L. I

wonder if his colleagues have squeezed him like Springer or if he

just was trading on Broda reputation (and used a good ghost

writer!) and the public's desparation to get well. Or maybe he just

got jaded and figured it's easier to squeeze a few patients than to

heal more patients.

BTW,I did give your friend the info for my new wonderful doc. Two of

the people I told of him, have gone to him already. Hesent a

handwritten thank-you note for both. I just called his office this

morning and was told that his wonderful nurse, Marcy, hurt her back,

too. Toth wrenched his back playing tennis with his son the day

before we met. He said since his son didn't make the team he would

play with him, himself, so he wouldn't feel left out. Now only the

bookkeeper is anwering phones this week.

My ISOCORT arrived a home after I left, last night, and my DH made a

special trip to bring it to me. SO I AM OFFICIALLY on the right

track, today, with my first isocort. Lying low and refraining from

taking my new Armour has been a true act of faith as I watched myself

regress to decrepit, hurty, old, hair falling out in fist-fulls, and

brain foggy, all in time-lapse over a couple of weeks as the first

couple of weeks of thyroid glandular + 2 days of Armour wore off.

I took one 5 mg pellet at noon, just after my acupuncture doctor

arrived to give me needles. I notice a HUGE difference in the last 3

hrs. I had been slathering hydrocortisone 1%cream on my chest and

tummy for just over a week, I think. That really helped with the

chest tightness, heart pounding, and wierd uncomfortable feelings.

But the isocort is EXCELLENT!!! I took 5mg for starters, right off.

Maybe I should cut another one in 1/2 and take 2.5mg this evening and

another 2.5mg maybe late tonight? does this sound too fast? or is

there somthing I haven't thought of?

I am an opinionated and determined survivor but without you, Kerry,

, Janie, Tish, prr, Inga, and everyone on this list, I don't

think I would have made it the last several weeks. I almost didn't

but I think we can figure this out. I know you all know how grateful

I feel and why.

It's a shame I'd not known this 'before' i ordered those books, cuz I'd have

never furthered their cause. For somebody to pick up those books and think that

they are 100% accurate leaves a lot to be desired. I got so frustrated, I put

down both of them and have not even tried to read any further.

I read Broda book and refer to it over all thyroid books. If not for

him, we'd prolly not know of the benefits of armour as we've learned. Anybody

after him only slid in on Coat tails.
