Guest guest
Hi, Mojo, I know what you mean about needing comfortable sleeping arrangements when you travel. I used to sleep right on the bare ground in a sleeping bag and never mind it. Now, I take one of those newfangled camp bed frames (like the camp chairs that fit into a bag...heavy black metal legs and canvas or nylon mesh seats?) that expands to twin bed size (They come in Queen and Double, too.), and I slide a twin bed sized sheet of plywood into the pocket where the blow-up mattress should go, then slide a regular innerspring twin mattress on top of that. This way, I am nice and comfortable all night (well, as comfortable as we ever get, right?), and high enough off the ground that I can just slide on and off of it. No squatting, struggling, or flat air mattresses in the middle of the night when I always have to get up and pee. My boys do the heavy fetching and carrying, but I still pack the van because I am the one who knows how to get it all in there without having to tie things on top. That's too hard on me, for sure, if I have to climb up on top and tie ropes and stuff. Of course, if you look inside the van, it looks like we are relocating the whole household, but I don't care as long as I can sleep nights while we are out. I missed camping so much while I was so sick this last three years, and now that they have a handle on what's wrong with my heart and all, I can once again get out and about. As long as this good time lasts, I'll be squeezing as much fun out of life as I can get, too. Hope you are doing better today, honey. Love you, MM

Guest guest
The last time I went camping was 4 years ago fro Labor Day. We used to go every long weekend. And same thing with packing the van. What is it about men that prevents them from packing? My hubby couldn't get half the stuff in the van. When we go camping we pack the mattress from our futon. It takes a lot of space, but it's a lot more comfortable than an inflatable mattress. We were thinking of going camping this year, but I don't think we'll make it. The boys really like it, we go to a state park in upstate NY, or somewhere in Poconos. It's a lot of fun, especially for the kids. I also like the getting away from the tv, games and so on aspect. Sitting at a camp fire at night, enjoying the quiet. They have a curfew of 10pm. After that everyone is required to really quiet down pretty much to a whisper. I don't mind, I think there's too much noise around and you need to have some quiet time now and then. It's also romantic staying up with your hubby. Mojo Re: Camp sleeping arrangements... Guest guest
aawww you guys are making me miss my camping trips!!! We usually go up around Payson one weekend a month in the summer but didn't get to this year. We just were too nervous with having two two year olds in the woods. Next year we will be back in action though! a
Guest guest
a C., I used to worry about my kids when they were little, too, especially since I was raising them as a single parent. But, I just got a harness for each of them, tied them to a table or tree near me when I was cooking or doing something that required my full attention. They had stuff to play with, they were away from the fire and dangerous things, and a lot of younger parents in the parks would copy me so they could enjoy their vacations, too. I did this on the beach, too. Made life much easier on all of us. When I was ready, I would take them down to the water and play, but when I needed to be doing something else, or just resting, I would set up a shaded area, tie them to a convenient log or rock, and relax. I never went to sleep, mind you, but I could rest and keep an eye on them without killing myself in the process. Hope you get to go again, soon.
