It is so good to hear from you and Happy, Happy Birthday!!! I must admit I don't read all of the post - moving into more of lurk mode - but come out of my shell when I read post that make me think time to write. This is certainly one of those occasions.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband and that the encephalopathy has gotten so bad it requires Xifaxin, but I will say I got notable results on it. As far as the Asacol, it pains me to hear that it caused such a reaction in you! I have been on Sulfsalasize since 1984, with the exception of a month (maybe) where the doc tried Asacol - with less than good results with my UC. Should your UC ever flare/return I would consult with him about the Sulfa.

I will be saying prayers that you, my long time buddy, have a marvelous birthday despite the medical woes of you and your hubby. You deserve a great day with lots of laughter and joy.
