Guest guest
Were there any other sypmtoms like lumps on the underside of the eyelid? Scratchy feeling? Pain? Sheila *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** I have Grave's disease, so it's related to that. But my eye disease and Grave's disease, though related, run separate courses. However, people can develop the eye disease, and not have Grave's, which is why they call it " thyroid eye disease. " And only about 20% (I think) of Grave's disease folks Sheila Bliesath StarGate Travel Phone: For more information on travel or becoming an agent info@... Guest guest
Sheila, I remember wrestling with the problem of clear bumps on the inside of the eyelid -the wet part that touches the eyeball. I don't know if what I had is like what your friend is dealing with. What worked best for me was prednisone (I recall prednisolone?) eye drops. I got them from the student dispensary at UC Berkeley. Quite painful. Also I had optic neuritis (and blindness) from the MS several years after that - and that's really painful. The idiot neurologist I had at the time put me on 400mg !!!! of oral prednisone a day for a month!!!! I don't recall a very adequate taper either!! The alternative would have been an ACTH drip... A couple of years ago I started getting the occasional chelazion (bump on the eyelid that looks sort of like a sty) it can mainly be caused by low grade (often undiagnosed!!) infection of cea (Helicobacter pylori) in the lubricating glands and ducts (both the tear ducts and the glands that secrete the oily protection that's a bit like ear wax) ---more than you wanted to know, I'm sure ---outpatient surgery didn't help one that I had for 18 months, but taking gum mastic or mastica as it's called in Greece, daily, reduced it in about 2 or 3 weeks. I got the actually resin from Greece because we have import stores in San Francisco, but Mastica in several forms is available on the internet. Since I recently used OTC 1% hydrocortisone cream all over my chest until the adrenal support came (and it helped!) if I was in your friend's situation I'd try carefully rubbing some hydrocortisone into the skin around my eye and onto the outside of my eyelid at night after some nice warm washcloths to warm up the area. I'd probably use nice warm washcloths in the morning and see how it goes in a few days... It makes me realize that this *hypothyroid/adrenal insufficiency* started very early for me. What a racket that doctors treat these symptoms and don't help by fixing the underlying problems. .... Re: SAMMIE Thyroid eye disease. Sammie, LOL we live in Wawa, Ontario Canada, a population of 4000 or less. The nearest city is 2.5 hours away and is a population of just over 80 thousand. There is very definitely a lack of doctors and it looks like a big lack in Opthamologists. She supports herself and two daughters by doing home day care. Hopefully I can be of some help in seeing that she gets the proper information so she can get the proper care. Sheila *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** If it is Grave's related thyroid eye disease, she would need to be on anti-thyroid meds for her eyes to get better, assuming she is HyperT. The key is to get your thyroid in the normal levels. Going HypoT can also be damaging. Scary to think she is losing her sight. Double vision is common, but there are cases where blindness can occur, though very rare. Surgery would be an ideal treatment method. But it's possible this isn't thyroid eye disease. I hope she finds someone that knows what they are doing soon. Guest guest
LOL small world. What is your maiden name? My late husband Gilbert " Two " Clement was born and raised in Ridout, just down the tracks east of Chapleau. I think Ridout was between Chapleau and Sultan. I don't know a lot of people from Chapleau, but a few as my business, year round home since the fall of 1993 until last fall was Lochalsh, Ontario which is 68 miles west of Chapleau on the Canadian Pacific Railway. I have been in this area since 1970, and at first we lived year round in Lochalsh for a year or two. Then we lived in Wawa through the winters so the kids could go to school. But when our kids were grown we moved to the bush to live. There are some pictures at http://snodinn.com lOl or I think they are still there. Our business is non-existent due to my son's depression, and other problems that were due to my mismanagement. We are still going to try and get it going this coming year, but . . . LOL this is supposed to be about thyroid!! Sorry I did digress. *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** > LOL we live in Wawa, Ontario Canada, a population of 4000 or less.
