Donna, I go to a pain clinic about every 2 months they give me my pain meds,

muscle relaxer(zanaflex which is very good) and they give me steriod shots in my

shoulders, neck, back and where ever I need them, they help some but they do

hurt when you get them, I haven't had any shots since the last of Jan. it is

time again but I put them off as long as I can. Audie

Hi Everyone,

I have had so much trouble getting pain medicine from doctors. I am now

in pain all the time and I am on Darvocette and Robaxin (muscle

Relaxant) and Celebrex. The Darvocette is the strongest I can get, yet

it doesn't stop the pain. I have tried other doctors but they just want

to put me on the new anti-inflammatory drugs, most of which make me sick

and I cannot take. Celebrex is the only one and it only seems to help

the knee and ankle joints from hurting. So for the arthritis it's

helping, it's just the FMS that I'm having trouble with right now for

pain relief. Lately I hurt so bad I'm starting to worry I have cancer

or something. But it's comforting to know that others seem to be in a

bad flare right now too. I have all the problems everyone cites here on

the list so I will not go into those. I would just like to know how

most of you get these heavy narcotics to help with your pain. I should

mention I do not see a Rheumatologist, just a regular D.O. Is this the

key? I'm just so sick of all of it and not getting anything for

relief. Any suggestions? I am not a drug addict looking for a high. I

really need some pain medicine that works.

Thanks

Donna

Hi Donna,

I too am having trouble getting anything for pain

for only when I need it really bad.

My dr. is a DO also..She has me on celexa,

trazadone and vioxx.

But she will not prescribe anything for the pain.

My trazadone needs to be increased it seems like

I never sleep anymore and always so tired I can

hardly go to work daily.

Joy,

I feel for you too. I have heard bad, bad, things about Trazadone and Vioxx. I

heard a commercial from a lawyer one day about people who have taken Vioxx to

call

because they may have damage to them. I have never seen it since. I KNOW I

didn't

dream this. I don't know the scoop on Trazadone but you might check into it. I

know my sis is on it. She is on this list too.

Audie,

The last time I was at a pain clinic it cost me $2500. But I had insurance

then. I've been trying to stay away from them right now because of that very

reason. They did a lot of spinal shots back then. They seemed to work for

awhile, at least for the majority of pain, but then, I can't possibly afford

that amount right now.

Joy,

I'm Donna's is and as she said, I'm on Trazadone and Vioxx. I stopped taking

Trazadone because it makes me sick to my stomach, dizzy (really bad!) and it

doesn't seem to keep me asleep. So, without telling my dr, I choose to get

off of it and go back to Elavil. I was on Elavil for years and had great

luck with it, but it stopped working, and I kept increasing the dosage.

Finally, I got up to 70 mg a night! So that's why my dr switched me. So

basically for the past 7 months, I haven't been sleeping and well.... You

know how that goes! I feel like dodo!

Anyway, you might ask about Elavil. Oh, the side affect I battle is increased

appetite! That's the biggest draw back for me!

Hugs and Peace,

Donna, I too saw that about the vioxx and I stopped

taking it for awhile. I only have one pill left for

tomorrow and it will be gone, I have an appointment

on the 16th then I will ask my dr. about the vioxx as

I have mitral valve prolapse with my heart and I don't

know if I should even be taking it, I also once had an

ulcer so really should not be taking as it is hard

on the stomach...Don't know what we should do

sometimes....Joy

Hi ,

I too had the dizziness when I first started on the

trazadone but no longer have it.

The vioxx does help my pain but I guess what scared

me was the things they were saying about it.

The trazodone worked really good for a long time, I

guess my body has gotten used to the dosage and it

needs to be upped. Thanks for writing,

Joy

I completely understand but am so glad to find someone else who saw the ad that

Vioxx

was bad! For a long while I was begining to think I dreamed the whole thing!
