Guest guest
>Little is known about the effect of light on the thyroid in humans. This caught my eye since the last few weeks, I have wondered about it's affect. There have been a few articles out lately pronouncing the good health effects of light and sunlight. For one, it helps product Vit D in our bodies. Second, there was an article about the effect of light on spinal pain of individuals. Those who were in darkened rooms had less relief from pain than those who were in bright rooms and pushed near the windows......... So, you have to wonder about sunlight and our thyroid function........ Janie

Guest guest
I know it helps - vit d, progesterone and thyroid share the same receptor sites on your cells. Vit D helps both hormones to better enter the cell, to express themselves. I recently had a consult with biochemist / pharmacist who told me before we ran any tests that if even if I was on the rigth dose of thyroid unless my progsterone/estrogen and vit D were optimal I've never feel 'great'- and he was dead right. Guest guest
IMO cortisol and selenium have a bigger influence of the hormone entering the cell. What all of the hormones and Vit D do have in common is the sharing of universal response elements to help them achieve transciption. > > > > >Little is known about the effect of light on the thyroid in > humans. > > > > This caught my eye since the last few weeks, I have wondered about > > it's affect. Guest guest
Selenium is vital for thyroid function, I agree - but Vit D is vastly underestimated, IMHO. It plays a role in autoimmune disease, depression and proper expresion of both progesterone and thyroid hormones. > > > > > > >Little is known about the effect of light on the thyroid in > > humans. > > > > > > This caught my eye since the last few weeks, I have wondered > about > > > it's affect. Guest guest
I don't think what he told you was wrong just not in the proper context, if any thing level is not optimum in your body for you you are not going to feel right period.....it has nothing to do with thyroid hormone, but yes vit D is over looked. > > > > > > > > >Little is known about the effect of light on the thyroid in > > > humans. > > > > > > > > This caught my eye since the last few weeks, I have wondered > > about > > > > it's affect. Guest guest
Carol, I'm taking 2000 IUs of D3 a day! Then again, I live up north where there's minimal sunshine in winter. I'm aiming for 114, I'm sitting at 72 right now, which while 'normal' is no where near optimal. I've found a big difference since I upped my dose (I was taking 800 IUs when tested in December). I'm also on natural progesterone. N > > > > I know it helps - vit d, progesterone and thyroid share the same > > receptor sites on your cells. Guest guest
Sorry, , I don't mean to belabour the point but it really is in context with thyroid and progesterone - I have spent a few hours in consultation with him and I pressed this point, since my levels of thyroid were quite good and I still felt like doodoo. I've also just picked up a book he wrote on vitamin therapy as it relates to something else and it's mentioned in there as well. Guest guest
eric, that's part of his point - it expresses both thyroid and progesterone, which works in tandem with thyroid and against estrogens. It helps T3 bind to the receptor. A deficiency in one of the 3 can cause irregularities in the others - they must all be optimal for health. The book is called Down's Syndrome and Vitamin Therapy by Kent MacLeod (he's the director of the Wellness Hospital here in Ottawa, also a compounding pharmacist. www.wellnesshospital.com ) I learned something yesterday leafing through it - there's a connection between malabsorption in the small intestin and hypoT. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >Little is known about the effect of light on the thyroid > > in > > > > > > humans. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > This caught my eye since the last few weeks, I have > > wondered > > > > > about > > > > > > > it's affect.
