I have been told that since I had a Whipple that the odds of harvesting

enough beta cells would be extremely low. How much of your pancreas was

removed in your Whipple? They took 3/4 of mine. How did Dr. Sutherland

determine that there would be enough to make the surgery successful? What

are the odds that you will come out better than just the pancreatectomy

that you could have done at a hospital in NOLA?

I can't imagine being on a low fat diet in the Crescent City. I would

either be dead or weigh 500 lbs. if I lived there. I have just had to

settle for 10-15 trips per year for the last 20 years. Since I went on

disability last year I have only been once. I am going into withdrawal for

a Central Grocery Muffalotta, a Ferdie's Special and Pascal's Manale (heck

or even Mr. B's) BBQ Shrimp.

Oh, my!

Chuck,

I will be far better off going to MN they just took the head of my panc

out when I had the whip!!!

u see the islet cells or the islet of langerhons cells live in the tail of

ur pancreas and since I still have a healthy tail and all of my test have come

back pretty normal. I have a great chance of coming out on the great end.

As for the New olreans food Brennans best rest. is Palace Cafe. Oh!!!! wait

Emerals tops them though.... All of his rest... here are great... Central

grocery is not too good anymore... Now Pascal's is great...

If you like steak then you need to head to the Steak Knife... it's

Well ...Finally The Mystery Man that the nurses were talking

about......Nice to meet ya!!! I had my one encounter with Dr. Creely

in March...didn't like the chap....he still thinks I'm in need of

severe psychiatric help....C'mon....I'm just a crazy CoonAss Chef who

likes to have fun...not to mention an LPN who has a disdain for Dr's

that aren't up to my standards. Nough said. I see Dr. Meyers...I am

assuming you see Dr. Brenner. He's another on my s-list. He

discharged me without tapering off the demerol...another story for

another day.

I am having the surgery done by Dr. Sutherland on October 7th. I

leave Oct. 2nd...less than a week away. My mom is going with me. Not

sure at this point if that's a plus or not. It's been a rough road

moving back with her at 36...

Want to tell you I am very happy that you will be having the surgery

also. Like Chuck said...living here How Can one Stay on a Low Fat

Diet???

Is anybody going to MN with you? If not...know that you'll

have 'family' there with mom & me. I'll be up and about hopefully by

the time you have your surgery done. Good Luck...Have a Safe

Flight...Email me if you'd like.........

Peace,

p.s. I can't wait to actually eat some of my crabmeat au

gratin ....with stuffed shrimp...and of course some good fried

catfish!!! YUMMMMMM!!!!

Gail,

If you would email me privately and give me a # I will at least call

you so you can give me an overview of the symposium and I'll give you

as coherent as possible an update on my post surgery progress. When

I'm recovered from the surgery I'll give you my collection of low fat

goodies that I've created over the past few months. I don't have them

organized right now but am always willing to share my knowledge in

the cooking field.

Wishing you a Great Day!!!

Hey ,

Only a few more days now and then it will be your turn! We'll be

keeping you in our prayers for a successful procedure and

recovery. That would be great to see this recorded for history on

Discovery, but even if you don't become a medical celebrity, what

a wonderful opportunity that would be to bring more public

awareness of this procedure and it's availability. The medical

community needs to know more about it, as well as the public.

When you get there, give our love and best wishes, too, for

Hi G,

I'm ... I getting closer to the day of my surgery and I can't wait to

get up there so I can meet even though we Live no lie right around the

corner from each other.

I hope that Her spirits are perking up a little. As for my pain I think

that I have it under control till the surgery. Then after that I don't know what

to expect. If it is anything like my whipple procedure, I will handle it very

well. I hope that to day is a painfree one for you. Know also that I'm gonna try

and get the Discovery story channel come and follow my case. if I m giving them

enough time.

Well I'll talk to you soon

Well it sure has been a long week, is home from the

hospital, but on a ton of medicine. The clot in her lung is gone, and

they started her on cytoxan has anyone had that? The side effects so

far are not so pleasant, but shes a trooper. Everyone cross there

fingers this new medicine works, and she can write her own mails to ya

(which she is looking so forward to). All of ya keep her in your

thoughts and prayers. It's so nice to have people who are going

through the same thing, and understand. Hugs to all!!

My prayers are with you. My husband had a clot too just recently and

" thank God " it is gone now so, I know what you are going through. BUT

he doesn't have Lupus. I have heard of Cytoxan before but I don't

remember who used it but it seemed to work. Keep up the good fight.
