Guest guest
Howdy y'all -- My mom -- natural healing guru -- has suggested taking lysine to help fight viral problems, since I had a big bout with mono (Epstein-Barr) two years ago preceding my first flare of FMS. Has anyone else taken this? I realize E-B is not definitively linked to FM, but in my own case the sensations are so similar I'm really half-convinced they're related. On a side subject -- I am struggling a lot right now with a super-fast heartbeat. I'm seeing a cardiologist at the end of this month, but in the meantime it's very uncomfortable -- 120-130 resting rate and much higher after exertion. Is this an isolated case, or do others of you have trouble with a fast heart rate? My EKGs are always normal, so it hasn't yet been diagnosed as tachycardia. I'm also, to hearken back to the E-B stuff, concerned about my heart getting involved with this virus. I had a perfectly normal heartbeat two years ago, never thought much about cardiac things until recently. Now I'm kinda worried. Guest guest
Em, Over the past 10 years, I've had problems with rapid heart rate, irregular heart rate, even recently, chest pains and all my tests come back normal. The first time it happened, the cardiologist told me I was too young to have these problems...and after tests, found my heart was normal (although at various times during usual checkups, I was told I had a slight heart murmur). Then when I had the chest pains recently, I had tests and all came back normal. I am 48, had hysterectomy and ovaries removed(1993, 1995), should have gone through surgical menopause already, but haven't. Learned rapid heart rate could be related to perimenopause. Don't know if thats my problem, but there are times my heart races for no reason - sometimes when I'm laying in bed to go to sleep. My therapist said maybe its a panic attack. I disagree - how could I be having a panic attack when I'm not panicking about anything? If its possible, get an EKG and then if its ok, don't worry about it. One of the ladies said that she had been told ginger helped to calm heart rates and it did for her. She takes 1/4 teaspoon ginger in water twice a day. I am sorry to say but you do not need to be panicking about anything to have a panic attack. They come out of the clear blue sky for no reason know to woman or man. Panic attack are a disorder. There doesn't not have to be a reason. I go through them quite often. I don't like it it. It scares me. I have found myself out of bed and running down the hall way afraid of what I did not know. Duff had to talk to me and we would wait it out. So, I suspect, that you are having panic attacks. The heart part is one of the things that happens. There are other things that I get. Ok, this got me curious, I understand I don't have to *start* off feeling panicked, " oh my gosh, Rover broke his leash, how will we ever find him? " and then a panic attack, but at least when your heart starts racing and you feel like you can't breath, aren't you suppose to be feeling a sense of panic *then*? Isn't that why it's called Panic Attacks, because you feel a sense of panic with the racing heart, shallow breathing, etc.?? Darcy

Darcy

Guest guest
What I go through is not a panic attack. I have had panic attacks, I know what they feel like - I'm short of breath, my mind is racing and I'm usually fearful of something. These times its just my heart racing. It usually occurs at night, when I'm settling in to sleep. I'm relaxed, usually exhausted and achy. I wear ear plugs to bed to block out those little noises that might cause disturbances in my sleep. I can hear my pulse loudly when I wear them. I then notice my heart rate pounding...and to fall asleep, I usually count backwards from 99. It almost always helps. But it still bugs me that my heart races, but I try not to worry about it because there's nothing wrong with my heart. As far as menopause or perimenopause....I'm a bit confused. I had a hysterectomy in 93 and my ovaries out 94 and 95. I was told I would go through surgical menopause - but nothing (I'm so glad). I had a few hot flashes after one of my surgeries, but that was about it. My doctor kept insisting I take hormones, but they make me crazy, so I don't. The last time, he said I should have a bone scan... he said if I have bone loss, I need to go on hormones. (its not the involved one...takes about 10 minutes.) Fortunately, my bone scan showed I had the bones of a young adult...so he didn't push the hormones..at least not yet. I guess each person's situation is as unique as the person. There should be more doctors that should realize that. Koala-t hugs, Cathy
