Guest guest
Yes, I feel it is important to rule out MS. In my case, I was having not only the pain and fatigue, but after I had my baby, I started having scary spells where it was almost like I would pass out, but not lose conciousness..all the sudden I'd get this heavy feeling and I just had to sit down. Found out I had anemia even though I had not been anemic ever before. But since a lot of symptoms are similar, its good to have it ruled out. She should have a full blood work up and thyroid too. Thats my opinion. > I am joining this group for my wife who is 58 and been suffering > from the symptoms for at least 8 years. Guest guest
Dear You asked if it was important to get a brain MRI. I can only speak from my own experience. I had severe panick attacks and they thought it might be epilipsy... An MRI was done and showed absolutely nothing. It had no bad side effects if that is what you are thinking. But unless she herself feels that this is needed I would not subject myself to the radio active stuff they inject in order to follow it to the brain. just MHO namaste rev. corry Does MS need to be ruled out as a possible diagnosis? > I am joining this group for my wife who is 58 and been suffering > from the symptoms for at least 8 years. Guest guest
Hi , If an MRI will give you and your wife peace of mind, please do it. I've had several of my brain, all with clear results. Make sure that they do a complete scan-- a MRI and venous/arterial studies. Then you won't have to go back and have it done again. And get copies of the films (they might cost you a few dollars, but worth it). You might have other doctors that will want to look at them. If you have your own copies, you won't have to worry about requesting last minute ones to be sent to whichever office. Also, there's no risk of them " getting lost " in transit. Best wishes and keep us posted. Mn > I am joining this group for my wife who is 58 and been suffering > from the symptoms for at least 8 years. Guest guest
What would make you think she has MS? I do not think that MS comes with a lot of pain. I have talked to literally hundreds of people that do have MS (I was diagnosed with MS in 1999, but have been told since that I do not have it), some mentioned some pain, but nothing major. If your wife is having symptoms such as numbness & tingling especially in her hands and feet, vision problems, speech problems, gait problems, then yes, she should definitely have an MRI. (I've had about 10 - 11 of them!) Rhonda Does MS need to be ruled out as a possible diagnosis? I am joining this group for my wife who is 58 and been suffering from the symptoms for at least 8 years. She has never been without pain one day in that time, and has had bouts that landed her in the hospital for as much as 9 days on Dilaudid and Morphine with little relief. Is it important for her to have a brain MRI to rule out MS? in Tennessee

I wonder if I might need to have that checked....as these last 3 years I have experienced those symptoms more & more. Is MS genetic? My fibro, RA, & OA have come on from a severe neck injury in 1998; now I wonder if its more. Thanks for the help,

Guest guest
It probably would be a good idea to have it checked. They say that MS isn't genetic, but I'm not so sure about that. Six people on my father's side of the family had/has MS. And I've talked to others (MS'ers) that say they have a relative that also has MS. You're welcome.
