Results of stopping URSO

I received my

blood test results (1 month after terminating high dose Urso). I’ve

posted an image of my results in the files section (http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group//files/,

under Liver Panel Tests). I’ve reported the long term increase in ALK

phosphatase in the past. At the rate it’s going, I wouldn’t reach

the high end of the “normal” band for 25 years.

The only real

change is a sharp increase in ALT. Although still within the normal range

for this lab, it’s clearly higher than it’s been since diagnosis in

2000. Unfortunately, the distribution for ALT is not normal (that is, not

a classic bell shape), but skewed to the left side. See http://www.aafp.org/afp/990415ap/2223.html.

So, although

in the “normal” range, it’s not so normal for me. He

said he would write a prescription for low dose Urso, if I chose. The URQ

pain I experienced shortly after stopping Urso has pretty much disappeared now,

and I really have no other symptoms. I’m inclined to go back on it

at the reduced dosage.

He did say he

wouldn’t normally do this, but as I’m a pretty “savvy”

patient (thanks everyone!), he would be OK with it. He also wished he had

plots like this from all his patients (it’s an engineer thing –

sorry).

I wasn’t

too wild about this in the first place; I restarted Urso an hour ago.
