Guest guest
This is classic adrenal. Adrenal problems lead to tall very thin teenagers. The nervousness goes with it. Other causes could be an undiagnosed parasite. I have seen reports of people being very thin all their lives who were infected with enotmoeba histolytica. Parasites not only keep you from taking up nutrition, but they affect the adrenals and thyroid as well. You could also be an undiagnosed celiac or person with auto-immune wheat allergy. Celiac disease and hypothryoidism go hand and hand. A sign that you might have this is anemia. Celiac disease damages the intestinal tract so that you cannot take up nutrients well. Guest guest
If I were you, I would look at ferritin and adrenals. Though it is very possible that you are in the hyper phase of Hashi prior to the crash, I still have a feeling adrenals and ferritin are involved. I would also look at dhea, progesterone, estrogen, hgh and testosterone plus free testosterone as well as a TPO (Hashi antibody test) and an ANA (rhuematoid antibody test) To me, seeing that you are cold, hair loss and unable to gain weight, something is severely depressed. The research I am seeing lately is interesting because there seems to be an issue of whether the thyroid issues come because all our hormones are depleted or the other way around. I wish more people would do research on cause and effect, not just results. I see many of us that have thyroid issues started the " severe " decline over 45 unless a hysterectomy or something like that. Now there are exceptions to every rule, but... Skinny and hypo. What would not being able to gain weight be a sign of? I have always been thin, ALWAYS I grew up with people telling me how skinny I was. (Like I didn't already know). The only time I had meat on my bones is when I was on antidepressants. I gained 20lbs. But once off, back down I went. I'm 5'8 " - 120. I used to never be over 110. I am also, " nervous " all the time. And that too, is something I have always had. Guest guest
I agree that skinny and tall is a sign of adrenal problems. I graduated high school at 5'll " and weighed 112 lbs. I was nervous, had the strongest startle response one could have and still do, etc. I didn't start to gain significant weight til I started HRT. Deb Re: Skinny and hypo. This is classic adrenal. Guest guest
Hang in there Elisabeth! Just believe it WILL get better! I have never had the feeling that I couldn;t handle stresses except once.. Then I think I was in a Hashi flare up and was having panic attacks too. That was many years ago and it was a lifestyle change I needed to get me through. I HAD to cut some of the stress out of my life. I was losing my home I put blood, sweat & tears into redoing. I bought this house for a song, but on my salary then it took every penny I had to buy it, then I rebuilt it, literally. I had to straighten floors, sand an refinish them, put in a wood stove and reframe all the windows and doors as they were shot. Replace walls... then I was laid off my job and lost the house. Then my car broke down. And God forbid, I had to ask my Mother for $65 for an alternator. That stress put me in the hospital with a panic attack so bad I almost died! My blood oxygen levels were so bad I was breathing in a bag for almost an hour, with the IV fluids for the shock my body went into from it. That was back in my drinking days and was one of the things that stopped my alcoholism! So believe me when I say the worst things can bring about the best changes! With the tests you are having done, you will be able to get to the bottom of your illness and start feeling better. *Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WV Fat cat? Diabetes? Guest guest
Make sure you follow directions on the saliva and Have NO caffeine Skinny and hypo. I just got a lab slip for FT3, FT4, TPO, and Serum Ferritan and Adrenal saliva test. I have ordered that from ZRT and will go get a blood draw tomorrow. I have had a couple of weird episodes the last few days where in the late afternoon I'm so shaky and food doesn't seem to help.I have been getting a little shaky but these are worse. I don't feel hungry. It seems I'm falling apart . I too, have a very quick startle reflex. And I have MVP. I KNOW I don't handle stress. Every single time I go on vacation or even take a drive that lasts over a couple of hours, I get sick with something. I crave caffeine. Sorry to keep going on and on. I'm really feeling kind of hopeless right now Thanks for this great support group! Guest guest
Hi Elisabeth, You're not alone....I am struggling with that hopeless feeling as well. Where did you get the lab slip for the T's?...did you just go to your MD and ask for this to be done? Did you mean that the serum ferritin and adrenals would be tested by saliva/ZRT??? I probably sound so stupid, but I'm not that familiar with all of this yet. I've spent the last 2 yrs. just trying to figure out what kind and what amt. of hormones I needed for my meno symptoms. Lately, I don't handle the least amt. of stress well at all...I can watch a TV show and get anxiety! My trouble is trying to understand if this is female hormone related or now, thyroid, adrenals, whatever...since so many of the symptoms can be either/or. Good luck with everything...I hope to get a handle on this and soon. I'm so afraid I won't in time to enjoy my son's wedding in June...I'm even worrying that far in advance...geez! I, too appreciate all the good info everyone is sharing here. Thanks everyone! Kathy > I just got a lab slip for FT3, FT4, TPO, and Serum Ferritan and Adrenal > saliva test. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I just asked my doctor for the tests that I wanted. She faxed me the slip and I will go to my local hospital for the draw. The adrenal test is the only one that is saliva. And I live in CA so, it's required. I think the only other state is NY. I, too, am trying to figure it all out. I had a complete hyst 6 years ago, so I know that is playing a huge role here. Thanks for the support.
