Oh, I am with you on the earphones! I was told Jocie was partially deaf

until last month when I had an audiologist who could actually work with her.

She is no good at keeping all of the apparatus on either. Just sits and

screams. I also had one audiologist deem her inconclusive because she would

not repeat " Hot dog " . I asked him to change the word, or sing a tune. He

refused. Between the fibro and the autism, I feel like a moron magnet for

doctors.

Missy,

Brocky has yet to have a hearing test that is not inconclusive. He can't follow

directions if he doesn't understand them...why can't they figure this out. I'm

sure his hearing is fine though...he can hear the musical opening of Toy Story

from the other end of the house so I'm guessing he can hear pretty well...better

than I can actually. I'm sorry you haven't been able to find funding for AIT

but hopefully she will grow out of it. And yes, you're allowed to hope...it's

the only thing that gets us through the day (and week and month and year).

They would be a deadly pair. LOL Last week Jocie smeared calamine lotion

(the pink poision ivy stuff) all over my dressers, desk, mouse, keyboard,

bedspread. It was all within 5 minutes when I was calling around for prices

to get my car fixed (I had it towed home that AM because the alternator

went). When the Hub found her, she looked at him and asked Lotion??? As if

to offer him some. She had it from her hands to shoulders, and then, just on

her knees.

Yesterday she tore up a DRIED floral arrangement completely. Styrofoam

instert and all, and threw it all over her bedroom in mouse size peices.

Grrrr.

Ok, I've got to say, this guy sounds like a total idiot! What good

doctor insists that a child say the word he wants vs actually trying to

find out if the child has hearing problems by substituting words?? I

remember reading about that hearing sensitivity working fairly well for

a few families in a book or two on autism that I've read. It's a lot of

money, especially if your insurance doesn't cover it. I hope you can do

it and it helps her!

A friend of mine has a little boy with autism, but he's pretty high

functioning. She is constantly finding new experiments or messes he's

made to see what happens when.... The other week he put baby lotion all

over the toilet seat so you could get lotioned at the same time, you sat

to pee! She didn't notice until too late that the seat had been...

adjusted! Having a two year old brother is just perfect for them to get

into mess trouble together!
