I'm very curious to know more about your experience with Dr.

Rothenberg. She was recommended by my derm for PhotoDerm, but i have

found that she is very expensive - $500 per treatment.

If it helps, my derm is Dr. Ramsey Markus at Baylor College of

Medicine in the Medical Center. I have been very pleased with him.

Hope all gets better.

Regards.

Yes, these are the trio of death. Exactly what I have. However, if

you think about each one as a complicating factor or the others,

managing this trio of death becomes easier.

Let's start with the acne. This should be responsive to Minocin 100

mg bid. Serendipitiously, the rosacea should respond to this, as

well. If this doesn't work, after a good three month trial, move

onto Zithromax 250 qd. Here's where the complicating factor comes

it. Seborrhic dermatitis is exacerbated by overgrowth of p. ovale

yeast caused by the Minocylcline. This is most apparent on the

scalp, so you must add ZNP to scalp for 10 mg every day. You cannot

afford to miss a day of the scalp treatment, you cannot afford to

become lax and do the every other day or three times a week sd

treatment, because these regimens assume no concurrent antibiotic

use, which you need for the other two conditions.

In order to keep the gi system in shape, you must take acidophilus,

as much as you need, everday, in order to prevent yeast syndrome and

other gi problems.

Another good thing, especially if you have acne on the trunk is to,

every day, apply triaz 10% cleanser to the affected areas, leave on

for 10 minutes, and then take a shower. This is necessary to prevent

the emergence of resistant p. acnes, gram negatives, and yeast.

However, you cannot apply this to your face because you have

rosacea. Therefore, apply Sulfoxyl regular to your face (5% bp, 2%

sulfur lotion). It is best not to add other topicals to your face

because they will be comedogenic and aggravate your underlying acne.

That means, no metro triplets, noritate, as these are very thick

acnegenic formulations. And no gold bond.

Another option is to go for low dose Accutane 10 mg qod. The

topicals stay the same as above, but you stop all the antibiotics.

Ideally, if you only had acne, you would go for 2mg/kd/d for the

first two weeks, and then 1 mg/kd/d for the remaining 16 weeks, but

you cannot due that due to the complicating factor of rosacea. This

means that your acne will take longer to clear. It can be helped

along slightly faster doing the topicals as described above.

Hi Tammy,

I am fairly new as well and very glad I found the group. I have

learned a lot and gotten a lot of new ideas. My daughter is 10 and

has CF. She is having a fairly decent year. Last year she missed

over 6 weeks of school. How about your daughter? Is she well? Is

she in school?

I look forward to getting to know you.
