Hypothyroid can and DOES kill your whole immune system. The BEST cure for it is to slowly raise Armour. I had many more symptoms and didn;t realize often that they were symptoms of hypo till they went away on more Armour. I had been on 1 1/2 gr. for at least 8 years (used to be higher) and didn't get cold sores. I went to a new doc, he put me on Synthroid, and based on TSH tests, over some months dropped me down to 75 mcg. I had 3 cold sores that year, and they usually took 6 weeks to clear up. I found a different doc, who switched me to TCL and upped the dosage back to 1 1/2-2 gr. I haven't had any cold sores since then. Guest guest
> i think the cold sores are just the oral herpes virus. as much as i hate > most prescriptions, there is something available for this...which might be worth > looking into. > cindi There is something prescription available, and it's very expensive. I also think you need to start the med within 3 days of the herpes outbreak for it to do any good. I know that's true for the anti-viral meds they give for shingles, since I researched it when my husband had shingles. Course oral herpes might be different. Guest guest
Hmmm, every school picture I've had taken shows me with a 'cold sore'. I've had them all my life. I never get them anymore, now that I've learned how to deal with stress. I have to add that I grew up with tons of stress, which I won't go into, and I've lived with a lot of stress most of my life. Now, if I get one, it'll be because I get so angry at something that I have no control over, and it's usually something that I've gotten myself involved in that I shouldn't have, and boom, I'll have one. But they are nothing like they used to be. I am finally learning at age 50 that there are tons of things I have no control over. I only have control over myself. I have had feverblisters once in the past 3 1/2 yrs. That episode involved me getting mixed up into somebody else's mess that I shouldn't have ever taken on. It's a big switch for me. Normally I'd have them every year and I'd have them frequent. Lysine works, but only if you take it everyday and don't forget to take them or a breakout is going to happen. My oldest son also has them frequently and is a worry wart like I was most of my life. He lives the most stressed life I know. So far, I'm the only one in my immediate family with autoimmune disease. Whether there is a link, I have no clue, but I tend to think it's not the case. I suspect my oldest son is hypoT, but it's only a suspicion on my part. I can't tell you how much I love not having those stupid ugly cold sores anymore. Words just can't possibly explain it. Guest guest
Thanx Laurie, for your thoughts....I am really stumped as to what ele it could be....when they first found my anemia..they ran me thru every test under the sun..and found nothing(not even my thy. problem then)---that wasn't until my gyno...just happened to feel my neck doing a routine yearly..and then things finally started to fall into place...as to why I have had all these nasty symptoms.....I just hope and pray to start feeling like myself again gy summer.... I do agree that my system is probably pretty damaged...it took them nearly 20 years to get me diagnosed,,jeanne > Jeanne, I think you have something else going on. Your immune system sounds like it's really damaged...I wouldn't raise your Armour, since you just did. Does anyone here know what can strengthen one's immune system? I know patience is hard, but your poor body has a lot of hard work to do, rebuilding and repairing twenty years' worth of damage! Hang in there!
