Guest guest
I've ALWAYS been cold and my husband hot....I tell him to take off some clothes, as I get so cold that my body goes numb, and I literally cannot move, I swear i'm going to die from hypothermia! NOW that i'm 37, I have hotflashes and sweat all night long, and wake up often at night with my chest burning up, it feels smoking hot to the touch. I still vote that being too hot is more comfortable than being too cold! I take a cool shower and feel comfortable for a couple of hours when i'm miserably hot...when i'm cold, I can't even stand to undress to get IN the shower, and can barely stand to get out of bed at all! My doctor doesn't think this sudden episodes of overheating at night is peri-menopause, I barely got 2 hours of sleep last night because of this, and the minute I wake up I am suddenly freezing cold. And as I start to doze off, I get smokin hot again...what's up with this??? Is this normal menopause symptoms? Maybe I should buy some prempro from the internet... I've taken elavil up to 150 mgs. a night, and it didn't help, i'm decreasing the zoloft now as I don't think it helps either. The wellbutrin that I also started taking caused severe palpatations, and I swear caused me to feel psychotic and freaky. I don't know why they put me on this sh-, i'm not depressed untill I go see a doctor, who depresses me! kmnewberry@... _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com
Guest guest
Peace sister, I am new to the group, joined just last weekend, and will submit an intro soon. I did want to address you hot flash symptoms though. I am a nurse, for over 20 years now, working in an allopathic environment and also a student, for about 6 years now, of naturopathy. I am also, at 44 y/o find myself perimenopausal a little sooner than most women, and like you have always been cold natured. I started experiencing hot flashes several years ago, usually at night, well actually around 3 am. I did not have a real problem with them, I would just get up and check my email under the ceiling fan until I cooled off then go back to bed. I agree the hot flashes are not as bad as being cold all the time. I had been experiencing vague generalized pain all through my body several years ago and blamed it on everything from arthritis to wear and tear on my body and a herniated disc but deep down I now know I was denying my final diagnosis. I suspected it was fibromyalgia from dealing with patients who suffer with it, but could not bring myself to admit it because I am so active. The pain had been getting worse until one day I was at work and just felt like screaming because I could not handle the pain any longer. I told my head nurse that I was sorry but I had to go see my doctor right now or I was going to loose my mind. He has diagnosed me with fibromyalgia, ruling out other inflammatory diseases, and started me on Elavil. It is interesting, and may indeed be a coincidence, but my hot flashes seem to have become more intense and more frequent. I wonder if the Elavil, though I can not find hot flashes as a side effect in the PDR, could be contributing to this? He started me on 25 mg at night but I had to break it in half and work my self up because it was too strong for me. I am now taking 1 and a half tablets of the 25mg at night working myself up to 50mg. The Elavil does indeed help with the pain, still I have had a couple of bad days with break through pain, but on the most part it I am having great results from it. This makes me very happy as it was becoming so painful just to sit and spin or weave my goat's mohair. Something I receive immense pleasure from and find very meditative. As far as the prempro, there are some herbal remedies for the hot flashes. I don't know if you have had the opportunity to read recent studies that now prove that synthetic hormones do not prevent heart disease. I choose not to take hormones but do take Evista since I am a tall, slim white woman with a family history of osteoporosis. This puts me at high risk and a bone density scan has already shown osteopenic changes in one of my hips.
