Guest guest
if you have to eliminate all salicylates to be on the guafenisin therapy, how do we know if its the drug or the lack of salicylates that really helps? I've not met anyone able to totally eliminate all to make it work and they felt so much worse in the beginning, hope to hear of sucess! Guest guest
What I read just this weekend is that those with FM should avoid obvious sources of salicylates...red wine and aspirin are obvious and easy to avoid. SOME veggies are high, think nightshade relatives. Guaifenesin, I understand after extensive reading, has little to do with use of salicylates. However, it will NOT work if you have reactive hypoglycemia that you refuse to treat. Treatment? The Zone diet, 40-30-30. The Zone is VERY easy. I lost 25-30 lbs on it in 1999 and have pretty well kept it off. This tells me that I have RHG all right. What is hard for me right now is that when I saw my naturopath, she put me on a yeast free diet. Nothing fermented, no vinegar, tamari, mustard, ketchup. No nightshades, no potatoes, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, no eggplant. Fruit twice a week. No sweetners of any kind. Now, remember I am vegetarian, pretty much vegan really and I don't eat eggs, any dairy at all, no meat or fish. I can no longer eat bread and only small amounts of pasta because of the RHG and when I do, has to be whole grain, no white flour. Now, enter the idea that I need to Zone.... The Zone for vegans relies on meat analogs, which are easy to find. The only problem is, many of them are awful and have chemicals I am sensitive to. No, no I have no idea how I will get enough of the right things to eat. I have a soy milk machine I am thinking of making a soy milk, soy isolate, barley malt concoction to drink warm, a super protein booster. With the soy milk machine, I can make a gallon of fortified milk for about $1 and I am a happy camper! Yes, I am menopausal and have no symptoms with the vast amounts of soy I consume. I am also a normal weight with a large bone and muscle mass. Going to go and feel sorry for myself now.
