Guest guest
I would like to see the data on this and success rate. Also, perferation % and chologantis % after stents. Are you the first one he has done this procudure on? What kind of stent (Manufacturer), med. infused, and or antibiotic after. Keep up informed this is of great interest to me. Dee wife of Bob , ileo, psc and a miriad of other warts (as would say) He said that if you have 2 or 3 they > are less liekly to get totally blocked and if they do, bile can still > drain between. > Has anyone had this or heard of it? I'm not sure the risks are worth > the possible benefit and still need to talk to my own G.I. about it

Guest guest
If you search on “multiple” and “biliary stent”, you’ll see lots of hits on the technique. Most of the links require subscription, but a few clearly indicate side by side placement has been done. One example is Treatment, by Insertion of Multiple Uncovered Metallic Stents Arne From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of jennielou33 …He took out my single blocked stent which was a 10fr. and aggressively balloon dilated the ducts, then put in 2 smaller 7 fr. stents side by side… Has anyone had this or heard of it? Guest guest
I have one internal/external biliary stent, which have to be changed every 3 months at my local hospital. I had in 2006 another stent on my left side, right underneath my ribcage, which was than taken out after 6 months. Last week I had a check up, so that my Hep Doc. can try to put only an internal stent in, but this is not possible. So I have to stay on my "cable" coming out of my body. I had to release the bile on a regulary basis overnight, to make sure, that the stent is not blocking up and causes problems. After a long time of adjustment for me, I am used now to be a "Cable Girl", but still I would rather live without it, as it takes a lot of my selfesteem away. I can not go swimming, not taken a long hot bath etc. But what can I do, rather having a stent than a transplant at this time. Guest guest
This was the initial plan with my son, with the same reasons given. However, for us it didn't end up working that way. had way too many stones up in his liver, so it took enough just to keep up with replacing the 2 stents in 2 different ducts that he did have and cleaning out the ducts. Guest guest
Mine isn’t a stint, exactly, and there is only one of it, but it goes the width of my liver. One end goes down into my intestines, and the other end hangs out my side so I can flush it. They class it along with stints – but it’s not a small tube placed in a narrow spot – goes the length of one of the major ducts and keeps the whole thing open. –Nita- From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Ami Fox Sent: Sunday, February 01, 2009 2:43 PM To: Subject: Re: Anyone with 2 or 3 stents in at a time? Guest guest
Yours sounds like what I have, and I know what you mean about swimming and bathing. I miss a hot bath terribly! I used to take one every night. Me and my book. I think it helped keep the itching down a little, too. Guest guest
Nita, That is a great picture. They attempted to put one in me via a PTC (Percutaneous Transhepatic Cholangiography); however, my bile ducts were too far gone. My nurse that day called it a bili tube. Guest guest
Dear Nita,Yeap, a nice hot steamy bath, candles, music and a good book, I would love to do that over again. A nice glass of red wine would be nice, but it's not necessary. I guess I can deal with it, but when we went to Virginia Beach for a short break and I could not go and swim in the ocean, that was hard on me. So I stucked only the bootie into the waves LOL. I guess to take everything with a lot of humor makes every day a success. For the itching I have to take Rifampin, every night, otherwise I scratch myself silly. Rifampin helps a lot fortunately. Have a great day with lots and lots of humor.JuttaPSC 12/2004To: From: anita.oakley@...Date: Sun, 1 Feb 2009 18:21:43 -0600Subject: RE: Anyone with 2 or 3 stents in at a time? Guest guest
Yeah, any other doctor would probably have given up. Dr Shires said he watched part of the procedure, and some of the spots Dr Dittman was threading the guide wire in were about the thickness of a human hair. Actually, he did give up once, and then went in again a few days later, but finally got a tiny tube in. Then we started a process of increasing sizes – over a 3 month period they increased the size several times. Now I just have to go every three months for a clean tube. I thought it might do to keep things under control for several years, and so did dr dittman, but my hep dr says with the enzymes going back up, it’s time for a liver transplant. Guest guest
Hi Anita,I feel for you. Before I came to the US in 2001 I was living in South Africa, Johannesburg, for 10 years and I had a pool in my backyard. I enjoyed every day of it. At that time I was 100 % healthy, never had any kind of problems whatsoever. Three years down the road in the US, I get diagnosed in 2004 with PSC. God knows how I got suddenly out of the blue so sick and since than I live every day to the fullest. I am not on a list at that time and actually I do not intend to go on one. In which state are you living? I live in Ohio, it sucks here and I hope my family and I have the opportunity years down the road to move to a warmer climate. I miss my beach walks too much. Sniff.....Have a pleasant day.Jutta Windows Live™: E-mail. Chat. Share. Get more ways to connect. Check it out.
