My husband has a theory with which I agree that when you have had a hard time sleeping that you will finally go to sleep and you will sleep for quite a long time. It is as if your body need to catch up. I rarely sleep past 8 in the morning but there are time that I will sleep until 1 or 2 in the after noon. Since I don't sleep well although I can go to sleep with the meds I take at night, Duff says that I don't sleep well, that I toss and turn and cry out in pain. I am also up and down at night and Duff hears me get up and comes to find out if I am all right. Guest guest
Irene, What your husband believes is not necessarily true. In cases where an individual is under distress of some kind that is temporarily affecting normal sleep that is true. In cases where sleep is disturbed due to a physical problem such as OSA or due to abnormality of the brain chemicals it is not. People have been known to go without deep sleep for months and it is both physical and psychological damaging. Yours Dana

Guest guest
I can say without a doubt, I have not slept for more than 2 hours straight in at least 15 years. My total nightly hours sleeping range between 3 and 5 on average. If I sleep more than 5 hours I am ecstatic. I actually try and get to bed by 9 or 10 and I don't get up until 7AM, but I lay in bed in the middle of the night just thinking and thinking and I never get up anymore looking for ways to occupy my time. If I stay in bed I will eventually fall asleep, but I have been known to stay there in the dark and stay wide awake til the morning light shows up. I never but never sleep during the day because once I have been in bed past 6AM I hurt so bad I am in severe pain everywhere. I have to get up and get the body moving. I used to get up in the middle of the night and do my emailing. The problem is that I would stay up the rest of the night and go days and days with only 1 or 2 hours per night. At any rate, my point to all of this is that I have never caught up on my sleep and I have never stayed in bed past the first few minutes of daylight. I only wish I could sometimes !LOL
