Guest guest
Laurie, I am so sorry for what yo and your husband are going through, I can not even begin to imagine... I am not familiar with the law, here or anywhere else enough to answer you. But I would ask, if he is not eligible for tx, then why adhere to tx protocol? Also, if there is no chance for survival/recovery, then I have a hard time seeing how they can override your DNR. You say he signed papers, do you mean an actual DNR? If so, I can't see any way they can dispute that. I think his doctors need to clearly and plainly explain to you what his prognosis is. I will say a prayer for you both. ee > > My husband is in ICU in Little Rock at the transplant center. > He was bleeding out both ends,he is in a coma, he is having small > brain seizures, he has tested positive for blood infections. > He will not be offered a transplant at this point, but the Transplant > guidelines require that my husband on full CODE! and life support to > stay at the center. > My husband had previously signed papers not to be on life support. Guest guest
Oh my dear Laurie: I agree that the prognosis should be given to you. Could Kelley not be eligible just at this moment with the bleeding, etc. ? My husband has had two bleed outs and came out of both fine. I too will pray for you both and you should in the least call for a supervisor, transplant co-ordinator, and/or a spiritual advisor (if you so believe) and keep the faith my dear , that all will be better with the next day. Monday is a good day at hospitals and not always the same as weekends. The tears you thought you saw may be the oil they put on his eyes to keep them from getting too dry and not open easily. ICU can give the patient and caretaker good and bad so demand someone come and tell you the truth and nothing but the truth. Including the known patient reactions to all the meds and machines in that setting. Probably, no one better to explain that then Barb, when Ken was there or even Ken himself if he will. I am also, sure they will check Kelley's mental health more in depth. The human body and mind are a great machine and faith and optimism play a monumental part in healing. All the strength and courage I can possibly send to you from here. Guest guest
Laurie,My heart goes out to you and I hope you can talk with someone on the transplant team ASAP to determine if and when they might be able to do a transplant before you make any decisions.Under what circumstances might a transplant happen? If they get the infection under control? If he comes out of the coma? What priority would he have? Have the brain seizures done any damage? If the transplant team gave me any hope I would hold out. If not then I would gather the loved ones you trust to helpyou make any further decisions.Praying for you at this very difficult time,LeeMy husband is in ICU in Little Rock at the transplant center. He was bleeding out both ends,he is in a coma, he is having small brain seizures, he has tested positive for blood infections. He will not be offered a transplant at this point, but the Transplant guidelines require that my husband on full CODE! and life support to stay at the center. My husband had previously signed papers not to be on life support. Guest guest
Laurie, We are lifting you and Kelley up in prayer that you both are at peace with whatever decision you make during this excruciating difficult time. I hope that the transplant team has the answers you are looking for as well as the compassion. Joanne (mom of Todd)
Guest guest
I'm so sorry. I will be praying for you and your husband. I haven't been in your position but I have been told that my son had very little hope of surviving his first surgery, but that surgery was his ONLY hope of surviving and that most babies would already have died who were as sick as he was. It was a horrible feeling watching him being taken back to the OR but I knew in my heart that he had a fighting chance. I will be praying that the news gets better, and that your husband can be listed soon and get his gift of life. Guest guest
Laurie, I’m so sorry – For myself, if I have any hope of recovery and being able to live a good life, I want my family and doctors to do everything they can. If there is no hope for me ever having fun, I just want to go quietly. You have to do what you think is best and what Kelley would want. I will be thinking good thoughts and praying for you. That is the hardest decision you ever have to make. Anita
