Are peanut allergies due to the mold on/in peanuts?

There is a child at my son's school that is allergic to peanuts.

I have had it explained to me that peanuts are like little sponges, and

they soak up whatever is in the earth around them. Which means if

fertilizers/pesticides are used they are going to soak and retain them. So

there is a school of thought that this is what causes the allergies.
