I can either have my prescription sent mail-order from Medco ($3.00 for 90 days worth), or I can take my prescription to a retail pharmacy and get a discount. If I use the mail-order feature, there's no way I can get a refill sooner than 90 days. If I deal with a retail pharmacy, I will only get the discount if I stay within Medco's time constraint. However, the pharmacy will allow the refill anytime (as long as I haven't exceeded the number of refills listed on the prescription) if I pay full price and don't use any insurance coverage. So you might be able to refill sooner if you pay for it yourself. You'd have to compare the cost of that option to ordering from non-prescription sources.
