I'm new to this group and have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia after running

an 18 month period of deteriorating health. I know this is not primarily a

disease men get, but there I am. There were some questions e-mailed to me that

I'm going to answer to hopefully benefit others. Hope to learn to cope and

adjust to this. I also have Myofascial Pain Syndrome so in some ways I've been

blessed as far as pain management goes. I went through a 9 month process at a

pain clinic and was finally prescribed a Fentanyl patch. Since it's a narcotic,

it isn't given out without a lot of other avenues tried first. But it had a

remarkable effect upon severe pain, and I'm grateful for that. I know many

suffer with pain and have inadequate management. On with the questions :)

Age range: 47

Male/female: Male

What are the symptoms? anxiety, some sadness, IBS, chronic headaches, dry eyes

muscle weakness, chronic fatigue and severe pain, Nausea, memory and

concentration issues, major sleep issues, stiffness and pain in muscles upon

waking in the morning and sometimes throughout the day.

Has you illness been diagnosed? Yes

How long did you suffer before you got help? 18 months

Is there a time that you can remember when it started? Yes

Some of us have found lack of exercise we are overweight. Have you found this to

be a problem also? So far, no.

Are you on disability? Not yet

If you are any pointers for others trying to get on disability?

What have you found that helps ease the pain, warm baths, medications etc.?

Fentanyl, pamelor, warmth

Do you have sleep problems? How do you deal with it? YES, not very well. I was

on Klonopin then it stopped working at one tablet. So the doc said I could go

to two, which worked. But what happens when that stops (3,4??) So, I'm trying

Pamelor at night, but the day I really drag from it.

Do you have family that understands your illness? Yes, thankfully

Some have found certain foods causes problems with CFS or Fibro, have you? I'm

starting the search

What type of Doctor have you found that has helped you the most? Pain Docs

Hi everyone. I wanted to welcome all the new members to the group. This group is

great! They are very understanding.

Jan welcome back. I'm glad you had a good time and made it back safely.

, I'm so sorry about your nose. I hope it heals quickly.

I hope everyone is doing ok today. I know many are experiencing a difficult time

right now. Jobs and co-workers can be so exhausting and very frustrating. I am

fortunate that I do not have to work outside the home. My husband has a computer

business and I take care of everything from my pc. We are celebrating our 2nd

anniversary this weekend. It will be 2 years on Sunday and it's been great. When

we were married I wasn't so tired all the time and my pain was mild compared to

now. But I do count my blessings. I have 4 great kids who are so helpful and

understanding and a husband who understands. Even my mother is beginning to be

more understanding of how fms & cfs works. She found out that a woman at church

also has it. I also took a book that is biblically based and had her look at it.

I have to say that the past 3 days have been good for me. Hardly any exaustion

and mild pain *after I take my pain med* and belive me I've taken advantage of

it. I just want to thank everyone in the group. It is good to know that I'm not

alone. Well, I hope everyone is doing well and have a great weekend!!!!

,

Congrats on your Anniversary. I hope you have a wonderful day. I'm so

glad you've been having some good days. Take advantage of them and

enjoy them. I'm looking forward to a beautiful, sunny weekend(with a

less painful nose, i hope :-) ), and hopefully more motivation to get

out and do things. Take care,

Welcome to our group. It is a very nice group, I think. All of us are very

supportive of each other, loving and caring. If you have any questions, just

jump right in with them. You will get an answer. If you feel like venting,

feel free to do that too. We all have vented at one time or another.

Welcome again.

Take care,

Irene
