As you can see in the below quotation of the article the statement

related to restoring normal life expectancy was related to treatment

of PBC, not PSC. It was certainly a hope that the same effect would

be observed in PSC but it appears from this study the opposite was

the case.

" The rationale for using UDCA has come in part from the drug's

effectiveness in primary biliary cirrhosis. UDCA at a dose of 13 to

15 mg/kg/day slows the development of cirrhosis and varices and may

restore normal life expectancy in patients who respond to the agent,

said Dr. Lindor. "
