,

’s suggestion is good; however,

if that doesn’t result in your satisfaction, ask to speak to the Director

of Quality/Patient Relations. Another avenue is to ask someone how to get

the Rapid Response Team involved. As a patient/caregiver you have every

right to ask for immediate intervention from multi disciplinary healthcare

professionals. These teams can become involved with a request from a

patient or a caregiver. They are meant to get everyone involved to

communicate not only what is happening, but the expectations. There is

usually a time frame for the team to assemble and it is in minutes – less

than five usually. The specifics are usually listed on the hospital’s

web site.

I worked in hospitals for the last 33

years and this was one of the best ideas that I have seen. As said,

don’t let anyone intimidate you into not speaking up. This is a

very basic patient right.

, If you are unhappy with your husbands care,

ask to talk to

the nursing supervisor for his floor (not the charge nurse). Tell that

person your concerns, they are often the pt advocater for the pt's on

that floor too. You/Your husband can ask for a different doctor, or

for a GI doctor to see him while he is in the hospital. Don't be afraid

so speak up and let your wishes be known.
