Guest guest
Hi Betty! I also like putting mine between the cheek and gum because it's a little slower to dissolve there than under the tongue, so I feel like I am getting a steadier and more spread out dose. You leave it there until it's gone. When I'm moving about, my 2-grain takes about 45 minutes to dissolve. Seems like my one grain is similar, though. The generic does appear to have fillers that Armour does not, so you are left with the residue you mention. There are millions of capillaries that line the inner mouth, so the dissovling thyroid is entering your blood stream via those and going directly to your blood, bypassing the acids of the stomach and the processing of the liver where you will lose some of what you give yourself. It's an ideal way to take most any meds, by the way, if you can stand it. Janie > > I put the Armour between my cheek and gum. Guest guest
Thank you Janie, I wasn't sure if it went straight into the bloodstream. Yeah the taste takes some getting use to. Guest guest
Is it as effective to put Armour between cheek and gum as under the tongue? Is there a reason to do one or the other? Kate Question for ones that do Armour sublingually I put the Armour between my cheek and gum. How long do you leave it there to get the full benefits? Does it just dissolve an go into the skin? I am taking the generic and I leave it there and it melts but there is some still remaining. Would that be the leftover binders and fillers? Guest guest
> Is it as effective to put Armour between cheek and gum as under the tongue? Is there a reason to do one or the other? Hi Kate. " Sublingual " actually came from the practice of putting the med under the tongue, which is above the sublingual gland, but the entire mouth is lined with millions of those little capallaries which can " take in " the meds, including the buccal glands which are located in the mucous membrane which lines the cheeks, etc. The latter produce less saliva, and that's the reason I put my Armour between the inner cheek and gums--to slow the absorption and give my body a more even introduction of the thyroid hormones. Under the tongue would result in faster absorption, which I didn't want. Here's a link to explain more: http://rx4u.com/lozenge%20detail.htm Janie

I also wonder if having more contact with saliva, such as under the tongue, would mean more contact with the digestive enzymes present in saliva, which might deactivate the thyroid hormones more. Guest guest
I tried it under my tongue, but it kept moving around & I could taste it - when I tried it between the cheek & gum I completely forgot about it and didn't taste it hardly at all (unless I stuck my tongue there). Guest guest
At first I thought it was nasty, but maybe I'm getting used to it - if a little bit of it is still there when it's time to brush my teeth, I'll just chew & swallow it and I don't mind the taste at all any more! But no, it doesn't taste like pig to me..... Joyce > Yes that is the same thing here. I can't taste the nasty stuff so much between cheek and gum. > Does it taste like pig to you? Guest guest
It hasn't seemed to have any diuretic effect on me and I've been taking it for almost 2 months in slowly increasing dosages. Joyce > You know I was just reading an article, I think it was alt.support thyroid or something like that. It said that Armour has a diuretic affect where the synthetics don't have it. I believe it was Dr. Brownstein that said that.......Learn something new everyday. Did you know that? >
