I've had a fascinating reaction to 's YouTube video. I sent it to many of my friends and their reactions were very interesting.

As many of you know, my diagnosis in Dec. 1996 was a bolt from the blue. I hadn't been ill, my doctor was simply looking for the reason for a spike in my cholesterol (which I requested) and the rest is history. I had a scattered group of friends from childhood, college and my adulthood and there were some that I felt I could count on to be there for me no matter what. It was enlightening to see who turned their backs on me and walked away. I cherish the friends I have now.

There were wonderful friends and relatives who called, brought soup, sent books and cards and remained supportive throughout my many hospitalizations and the time I was bedridden with vestibular loss for several months. Some of those were the people who received the link to the YouTube video.

Nearly everyone asked (tongue firmly planted in cheek) "how did you get so lucky?" Those who don't see me often asked how I keep going because they don't see my day-to-day activity. Those I see frequently know not to call during my afternoon nap, but know that I look forward to seeing them, going out to dinner, etc. They were surprised by the depth of the disease as told by "."

As for my sister, I didn't bother to send the link to her because she wouldn't take the time to watch it. You can pick your friends, but you can't pick your relatives.

Thanks again, for making the video, /Wim!
