SATURDAY, MARCH 07, 2009 01:32 PM, CST We're going home!!!!!!!!! One week after transplant the doctors feel is well enough to go home. We couldn't be more thrilled! I'm sure being home with me, our daughter and our sweet little furballs will do him good. We have to be right back at clinic bright and early Monday morning. He is doing marvelous! I can't wait to show him all of the wonderful messages our dear friends and family have left on this site. We love you all and appreciate the prayers and support. We could not do any of this without all of you. :)

That’s great news. How about an “after”

picture? I did not think about the before pictures – wish we had –

but I have some after pictures. It is amazing how my color improved so

quickly.

Good luck and take it easy. The home

cooked food and your bed will be amazing.

I have some after pictures. I just haven't had a chance to post them yet. I will

soon I promise. He got all teary eyed when I showed him a picture of him, his

mom & our daughter the morning of his transplant and then one from today. It

truly is amazing! One of the doctors said to him yesterday " You are not a sick

man anymore. " He will reconcile it all but right now he's pretty emotional and

panicking about every little thing. He survived the transplant and PSC but he

may not survive his recovery. :) Just kidding of course! I love him more than

anything else in the world but when he has these near panic attacks over the

littlest thing it drives me bonkers! I just smile and try to take it in stride.

Bobbi,

Hang in there with him! I had those panic attacks and also used up lots of kleenex from crying for no reason. My husband got a little frustrated over my emotions too.

The prednisone is the biggest cause from what I've been told and it will get better as the dose is lowered. Glad you are home!

Blessings,

Barby - KS

Hi Bobbi,It sounds like he may be suffering from PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). It seems reasonable considering what he has been through, and how close he came to death. I think an actual live support group might help. The American Liver Foundation has support groups - check their web site for locations. Otherwise, maybe he should consider private counseling. A transplant is a huge thing to go through. Sometimes I try to think of it as only major surgery, to make it less scary. But it's more than that, isn't it?Marie

He was getting counseling several months ago. Once he's up to it I may suggest

it again. I'm used to being the crazy sobbing one. LOL Anyway, yes it is MUCH

more than just plain ole surgery. A transplant is life changing and life SAVING!

Hi

Bobbi,

From our experience, everything

you describe is perfectly normal!! It’s

almost totally due to the combination of drugs. As Barby described Prednisone can be very nasty, combined it with all the other

drugs (all of which are very strong, especially the immune suppressants) and BAM

you cry for no reason. It’s

hard on everyone, but especially the guys, they have no control over it. Hang in there, Ken got over it, (the

second time) in about a month. At

the support group we attended at Baylor, EVERYONE cried after transplant,

including a huge manly truck driver – it’s perfectly normal and the

cause is related to drugs. I can

also explain why several of the caretakers cried too – it’s spelled

RELIEF!!!

In fact, My transplant center insists on at least three months

of support group after the surgery. They work it into clinic days.
