Most things i've read so far claim that FMS is not an autoimmune, inflammatory disorder, and that even though it's a miserable thing to have, your body and it's organs and systems are not damaged with FMS, unlike, say, rheumatoid arthritis, which is autoimmune and permanently damages joints and possibl organs. Having said that, we know there is so much unknown about FMS, and that quite a few folks who do have rheumatic, inflammatory diseases seem to have fibro along with it. It's so difficult to tell which is which. I also just read somewhere that the term " autoimmune " may be misleading, and that some scientists are rethinking just what it may mean.
