Hi Dawn,

Well, I came very close to getting on the transplant list twice. (I am from Calgary, Alberta) I had quite a few bouts of cholangitis and my ducts are very sclerosed and tight so stenting doesn't seem to help much. My liver specialist referred me to another liver specialist and transplant specialist up in Edmonton at the Universtiy hospital and they started doing a bunch more tests. They told me it would probably be at least a year and goes by medical priority. The great thing about it was I ended up going through the tests and then through the grace of God, my health improved and I did not have to go on the list. That is the weird thing about this disease. When I am sick, it is brutal but a lot of times I then snap out of it out of the blue. It is like the bile all of a sudden somehow gets released and then I feel better.

I hope that helps and I wish your brother all the best.

Kind regards,

Alison

Can anyone enlighten me on how you get on a liver transplant list in Canada?

Asking for my brother, Glenn. He was diagnosed psc one year ago.

Thanks,

Dawn in Austin

Thanks . Glenn had a Dr. take interest in his case and has urged him to consider transplant while he is young (45) and still in good health. The Dr took his case to a convention of colleagues in Toronto last month. No word as to what that will do for his case Thus said I don't understand how he could become priority unless he gets much worse. I will let the group know what comes from this Dr.
