well....they didn't look bad.

my first thought was whether you had thyroid antibodies interfering with what

you do have as far as thyroid hormone.

my second thought is that for decades docs used a therapeutic trial of Armour

(one grain for several weeks) to see if folks noticed a lessening of

symptoms. that is said to be without risk.

how old are you...there was a study (tish - you have this reference?) that i

read about - that talked about how everyone over age 40 could benefit from 1/2

grain of Armour...because thyroid hormone levels do decrease with age.

but with your low body temp - I think that's a sure sign that your metabolic

stabus isn't as it should be - and that you would benefit from Armour.

Well I never even look at a TSH anymore as once you are on meds they are totally

wrong! Your Free T3 is just at mid range so could go higher if you still feel

hypo. And your Free T4 is just over midrange so it also could go higher. How do

you feel? That is THEE most important test you need to take?

Kathy, glad you had a sense of humor, cuz some folks get really mad

if we miss their posts! It's NEVER intentional. :o)

Am I assuming correctly that the labs below are those with NO

thyroid support? If so, they really aren't bad. And though we with

definite hypo need our free T3 to be at the top of the range to feel

good, I've seen others who are not hypo have a free T3 where yours

is.

What EXACTLY are your symptoms? What is your morning temp with a

mercury thermometer??

I have developed a habit of marking all my test values with the

percentage of the normal range they represent. I made a little

spreadsheet where you type in the value, the low end of the range, and

the high end of the range, and it fills in the percentage. Your ft3 is

47% of the range, and ft4 is 63%. Having either value below 66% (the

upper third) can be suspicious. Having said that, I have to tell you

that tests, even the good ones, aren't as important as how you feel. My

free t3 was at 150% (well over the high end of the normal range) at the

last test. Most people would have been shaking like a leaf in a

hurricane, but I was ready for a nap.

So the moral of the story is, yes there IS something that would indicate

hypothyroidism: your SYMPTOMS!

Maybe we should start going to our doctor appointments wearing a karate

gi and a black belt. Then when they tell us it's all in our heads, we

can just stare at them and start to growl...

-- prr

P.S. The formula for the spreadsheet is:

=IF(((C2-B2)=0), " " ,(A2-B2)/(C2-B2))

This assumes you have entered the value into A2, the low end of the

range into B2, and the high end of the range into C2.

Thanks Janie and Cindi,

My symptoms were: cold hands & feet, low body temp (but I was using a

digital therm. because my mercury one didn't seem to be working)

hairloss, anxiety, depression, etc.

I don't know...I may try the Armour as you said, Cindi. I also read

somewhere that hormonal decline due to meno can also affect thyroid

balance...and I feel like I've been on a steady decline in that

area. Symptoms are very similar...so.

Maybe for now, I'll sail off into the sunset and not bother you folks

for awhile. I'll try adjusting my estrogen/progesterone and see if

that helps. I had such hope that Armour was going to solve my

hairloss and anxiety problems (along with everything else, I

suppose). It was good to be hopeful...even if it meant being

diagnosed hypo...does that make any sense?

Thanks. I've gotten a lot of very good info here.

1. When I get DH on this program he'll be signing up for the spread-
