Guest guest
Reflexology, It Works This was on our local news and in fact this is the one thing that the spa I am going to on Saturday does. Mike wants me to have this done once a month... Hopefully it will help me. Maybe it will help lupies, so check with your Dr. to see if it is offered there. Webb - Your feet could be a key to the rest of your body. Reflexology, a method of foot massage, dates back to ancient Egypt, India and China and is now starting to make its way to the US. It is a way to help improve and restore health. Getting your feet rubbed can be relaxing but reflexology goes a step further. Ameann De head of the Luxe Spa, said, " It's an overall sense of well-being...that's what reflexology is all about. " Many spas and medical practices now provide reflexology. The body can be divided into ten " zones. " The zones are in the hands and feet and when pressed or massaged a certain way can affect your organs, glands and other areas in your body. Dr. Dailey from Rochester General Hospital said it is interesting for people with neck pain. Often, one area of the toe might be sensitive and so when that area is massaged, the patient recognizes relief. Dr. Dailey works in emergency medicine at RGH and is also a reflexology instructor. He said, " I'm a big believer in traditional medicine. It's just that I think some of these can be a wonderful adjunct or extra tools that can add onto it....it's a great way to take advantage of that. " For Tricia Nadia, who gets this treatment about once every month, it's made a big difference in her health. Nadia said, " I really think it's helped with my feeling of fatigue....ever since I started this I have more energy. " There are some things you need to be careful about. Anyone with major problems of the feet, particularly diabetes, foot ulcers--that kind of thing--should always check with their personal physician. Dr. Dailey said there has been research proving the effectiveness of alternative therapies. He often uses it on his hospice patients.
