I just got my fibro diagnosis about 3 weeks ago and I went to the library and

checked out several books on the subject and one of them was " What your

doctor may NOT tell you about Fibromyalgia " by R St Amand, MD. In my

opinion, this was actually a very informative book. Dr. Amand does promote

'his' guaifenesin protocol in the book but there is a lot more useful

information in the book with chapters devoted to

hypoglycemia/fibroglycemia/carbohydrate intolerance, genitourinary syndromes,

IBS (fibrogut), and the brain symptoms (chronic fatigue, fibrofog, and

fibrofrustration). And the guaifenesin protocol does sound somewhat

intriguing. I actually had my hubby read the first 10 pages or so for the

'general' description/explanation of what it's like to have fibro. I am

probably going to buy this book as soon as I get another preferred reader

certificate from Waldenbooks

For the doctor to mention THIS book in the same visit as telling you that

fibromyalgia is fatal (how absurd THAT is!) completely baffles me because

this book is actually very helpful in explaining things and certainly doesn't

treat fibro like a life sentence by any means. I would actually recommend

this book to anybody with fibro.

AND...in regards to the mention on this list of the other

book... " Fibromyalgia and Chronic Myofascial Pain: A Survival Guide " by Devin

Starlanyl and Ellen Copeland...I got this one at the library too and

loved it so much that I went out and bought it the very next day. It is an

awesome book with tons of information and helpful suggestions and it answers

a lot of questions. The very BEST book about fibro! These are just my

opinions of course but I think that most people would agree

Dear Jen: Baffles the hell outta me, too. He made me

think that the book supported his " Fatal Fibro "

prognosis and now you are saying that the book is

supportive and says nothing about Fibromyalgia being

fatal???? It only confirms my opinion that the doctor

is warped and needs serious psychiatric help.
