Guest guest
I think I should move to Indiana. Good luck today! Since we're in Indiana, that's where my hubby will have his transplant when the time comes. I was SHOCKED and AMAZED to hear that the typical wait time at IU is, are you ready for this? 18- 20 days! I about fell off my chair. That is amazing! Anyway, we see his hepatologist today at 10:50. Keep us in your thoughts & prayers and I will update everyone later today. Guest guest
We had Chris's appointment today. It went pretty much how we expected. We didn't get to see his actual doctor because he was on call seeing patients who were admitted to the hospital. Anyway, in the words of the doctor, his labs look like " crap. " Nice when a doctor tells you that huh? LOL His creatinine is good but his INR isn't. His billirubin had actually come down some. He had more blood work today so we'll know early next week how it was today. He also had CT scan to check for varicies. The dr we saw said he suspected that his MELD score would be pretty high but didn't really give us any indication of what it might be. The next plan of action is to see the surgeon who will do his colectomy on November 12. He will look at the slides from his most recent colonoscopy and decide if colectomy is the best way to go. The dr we saw today said given his Crohn's/colitis PLUS psc, that is likely the best route to take. They want to get that taken care of and have him healed BEFORE we get to listing him. And right now he has enough liver function that it's not crucial to list him immediately. We will go back to the transplant center a few weeks after that to meet with the transplant surgeons. I guess at that point they'll have a better idea of where to go next. From the sounds of things, we are in for a bumpy couple of years but we're both at a point of just wanting him healthy. I told him today I'd like to have a baby before I'm 40. I'm 34 and he will be 34 in December. So we have about 5 1/2 years to remove his colon, get him a new liver, get him all healed up and get me pregnant. Not too much to ask, right? We went to visit a friend who is a patient on the transplant floor right now. He had a transplant 4 years ago and actually I met his wife right here on this lovely psc support group. I don't know if they're still members here or not. Anyway, his Prograf & Coumadin levels were off the charts and he was severely dehydrated. Hopefully they'll get it all figured out and get him on to a path to better health. If you wouldn't mind, keeping them in your prayers, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
