Guest guest
anna marie People tend to refer to those who organize groups of workers as either 'crew leaders' or mayordomos. Crew leaders, usually bilingual Mexican Americans (at least in our area), are usually the ones who receive payment from ranchers or agribusinesses for their " crews " of workers, many of whom may not have legal documents. hope this helps, A > Hi all, > I am wondering how much the term crew is used by farmworkers to refer to groups of farmworkers throughout the country. > I know it was used in the National Agricultural Workers Survey 1997. Guest guest
I don't know how oftent he term " cre " is used. My perception is that it is used to refer most often in last farming operations and in conjunction with a " crew leader " . The crew often work for a crew leader who contracts to do work for a agricultural operation. Thereby, the workers are legally employed by the crew leader, not the agricultural operator. -----Original Message----- From: annamarien@... Guest guest
"Troquero" was used in the 60s, 70s, and more by migrant farmworkers from South Texas going to work "al norte"
Guest guest
The National Agricultural Workers Survey asks about " crews " in trying to determine wages since sometimes there is a group piece rate. Most of the time, the survey is administered in Spanish and the words we use for " crew " are " cuadrilla/Grupo. " As there are lots of colloquial words used in the fields, interviewers have the freedom to use whatever local word might be more appropriate. However, in this case cuadrilla is pretty standard. English speaking farmworkers also seem okay with " crew " and recently " crew " has come back into favor as an English slang term. -----Original Message----- From: annamarien@... Guest guest
The term crew is a very common used term here in the state of Washington, even in legal documents such Chapter 307, Safety Standards for Agriculture which requires the employer to have...Foreman-crew safety meetings at least monthly or whenever there are significant changes in job assignments. -----Original Message----- From: Gabbard [mailto:sgabbard@...] Sent: Monday, March 25, 2002 12:44 PM ' ' Subject: RE: [ ] " Crew " The National Agricultural Workers Survey asks about " crews " in trying to determine wages since sometimes there is a group piece rate.
