Hi !

I've had my share of frustrations, too :) Technically, your rheumy was

right. FMS and CFS are not considered " diseases " but are considered

" syndromes. " Syndromes are a collection of various symptoms, to be exact.

This classification does not make them any less viable. Many doctors are just

as frustrated as the patients they see, and they don't have a whole lot of

treatment plans to work with. Some doctors do scoff at the Internet, others

do not. Perhaps you could get just a part of the bloodwork he wants done?

I've been diagnosed wit fibromyalgia, but have questioned that as I don't

normally have the all-over muscle pain or the tender points. I HAVE had sever

fatigue and soem joint problems, among other things, and have not been to my

rheumy since last Oct. he seems a nice man, but I'm not so sure he's all that

interested in fibro or in trying to figure out what MY problems are :) Take

care, in NY

Hi !

My rheumy is something else. When I first went to him (and up until the past

couple of months), I really liked him. He has had me on this every three

month schedule of bloodwork---it has gotten extremely costly and he had a

*fit* when I told him I cannot afford it that often. Twice a year, okay but

four times a year, no. He refuses to budge.

Yesterday, I went in and the first thing he asked was " why didn't you get

your blood work done?! " I told him I was just there in May and he told me I

did not need it done again yet. He looked through the notes and said " oh,

yes, you were here " . He is *extremely* anal about bloodwork. He was also

upset that I could not afford to pay close to $200 a month for the

anti-inflammatory he wanted me to have (it is new, my insurance will not pay

a dime until it has been out either 6 or 12 months). When I told him that, he

rolled his eyes.

So, unfortunately, he will not allow just part of the bloodwork to be done.

He has me on an every three month C&S of urine---I have had lots of UTI's in

the past and even though I *know* when I have one, he checks four times a

year regardless. To me, that is just wasting close to $100 a year when I

don't need it.

,

It's a shame that your doctor won't try to work with you on expenses.

I know everyone complains about the cost of prescriptions, and how

the doctors whho dole out the samples help keep the cost

skyrocketing, but I don't have prescription coverage on my insurance,

and if my doctor didn't give me samples, I'd never be able to afford

half of what I need, much less some of the stuff he's tried me on. I

hope you can find a doctor who will be more willing to work with your

finances in the future. And one who will be more open and supportive

of course. :-) Take care,
