Every quick breath that Greenwood takes as she vigorously trains for the renowned Boston Marathon — heart pumping, pulse racing — reminds her of how close her likewise active father came to never again experiencing the thrill of pushing oneself to the limit.

In fact, it reminds her of how close she came to no longer having a dad at all.

The 28-year-old daughter of well-known Milton lawyer Lorne Greenwood recalls the fear of waking early in the morning to find her father being taken away on a stretcher nine years ago — and then the relief when he was given a second chance thanks to a liver transplant.
