I do get the sweats, and I mean real heavy, dripping, non stop water works.

The only difference is 1) my sweats are not just at night, it could start at

any time, and it could last between 5 minutes and a few hours, 2) I only

sweat on my left side. It is the strangest, and most annoying thing. My left

and right side are very different as far as neurological stuff.

Good Luck & Be Well,

I was diagnosed with PSC 7 years ago and have been a member of this

group ever since; however I haven't posted anything in many years

since I've been fortunate to have been very healthy and have put PSC

" on the back burner " .

I haven't experienced any of the most common symptoms (bad itching,

etc). But since I was diagnosed (at age 30), I have experienced night

sweats 1-2 nights per year. The past couple months, all of a sudden

I've been experiencing many nights with night sweats (about 20% of the

nights). I called my hepatologist, and the nurse said this probably

wasn't due to the PSC (probably hormonal or something), but I should

come in for a checkup anyway since I haven't seen him in a while (I

have an appointment in February). I'm currently 37 so I would think

hormonal night sweats should be a while away - I also talked with my

50 year old sister and she's never experienced night sweats. I don't

have the itching or other normal PSC symptoms.

I was wondering if many PSC'ers experience night sweats as a result of

PSC. It seems getting so many night sweats isn't normal and it would

be good to figure out what's behind them, PSC or something else. I'm

healthy otherwise (eat healthy & exercise every day).

Thanks for any feedback!!

Beth,

Hi! As I think Chaim mentioned, there are several of us who suffer from night

sweats. You may be able to find some more info on the archives of this site if

you wanted to. In any case, I'm only 33 and I've had to deal with them so I'm

guessing there's a good shot it's PSC related and not hormones! :)

p.s. When I mentioned them to my hepatologist, she wasn't at all surprised to

hear I'd been having them and seemed to regard it as somewhat normal given my

PSC, other medical status, etc.

Hope this helps!

Beth,

They are currentlt trying to figure this one out for me, but it

appears that I have become hypoglycemic and they think it's related

to the PSC. They are telling me that PSC can affect your Pancreas

and can cause problems with glycogen release. WHen I am having

trouble with sweating at night they believe my sugar levels are low.

I actually got told all of this last week. Tests have confirmed the

hypoglycemia and some other metabolic problems so now I have to make

some significant diet changes. The doctors HOPE that making these

changes will help to eliminate the night sweats, mood swings,

tiredness, and some of my itching. One of the other metabolic issues

is that my kidneys are no longer appropriately processessing some of

the waste products from the foods I eat. The diet that the

endocrinologist has placed my on is called a Low Oxalate Diet and I

am to eat 6 times daily following this diet and a diabetic diet. I

am still figuring this all out since my insurance won't let me see a

dietician. Maybe your night sweats are food related.

Beth and ChaimI too suffered from night sweats. I used to wake up a few times a night and change my clothes. After a million tests I was diagnosed with Sometype of Hyperplasia. Maybe lymphotic hyperasia. I saw a hemotologist who explained to me that it had something to do with the activity of the white blood cells. I hope that you feel better quicklyShaulPSC UCSent via BlackBerry by AT&TFrom: "escharmer@..." Dawn,

Your post really hit the target with me. I had hypoglycemia for years and some night sweats. I was diagnosed with PSC in 1990. The hypoglycemia has went away after my transplant.

You may not want to hear this, but when I got night sweats, it turned out I was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis, on top of the PSC. I take immunosuppresents for the the AIH, which keeps that in control (imuran and prednisone).Marie

I get night sweats and more so just before I have a cholangitits

attack. There are alot of things that can course night sweats and some

nothing to do with PSC but It could be a symptom of cholangitits and

should be checked by your doctor as we all know how bad a cholangitits

attack can be.

Do the night sweats come with slight fever? I had fever sweats and some coughing. They ended up diagnoding me with lymphatic hyperasia.
