Guest guest
Sandi, I loved your list as well and I actually have some of those on my other lists. I have them written down in more than one place, but was working off the top of my head. In the same spirit, what does YS stand for? Yiddish Stories, Young and Sexy, Ya Ya Sistas, Yemeni Symposium, Yankey Stadium? Just can't figure that out, I do like some adolescent lit, but I must say I love all things Austen, ph Conrad, with my secular religion would be Bardology. The funniest adult books I can think of right now are Confederacy of Dunces by Kennedy Toole (won 1981 Pulizter Prize) and Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons. But I actually find a lot of comfort in reading very profound literature. Recently read Heart of Darkness for like the 20th time, 's Ashes, and All the Pretty Horses. I am now reading When Christ and His Saints Slept by Sharon Kay Penman about the struggle for the throne after Henry I died between his dauther Maude and her cousin . I love Brit History. Have you read Book of a Thousand Days by Hale (adolescent lit). I really loved it and look forward to reading it with my 9 year old daughter. For coping with problems I find Man's Search for Meaning by Victor l great and any of CS nonfiction books. You may write me personally at cswb@... if you want to discuss books in more detail. Take care hope your husband's fatigue improves in time for weekend chores. I loved your list! I'm a big/huge/gigantic proponent of the if you have the choice between laugh and cry, always choose laugh theory and it sounds like you've got a similar philosophy. > > To add to the tv book recommendations, I'm a former librarian (I specialized in YS, but I worked in all areas), so feel free to hit me up for good reads, too! > > On my list: > 1) I very rarely have to miss an episode of General Hospital or Grey's Anatomy > 2) I can spend the day in bed without being called lazy or self indulgent > 3) I've developed a highly-attuned morbid sense of humor > 4) I've become pseudo-famous and have my own shelf at the pharmacy and the pharmacists know me by name. > 5) I'm no longer freaked out by germs. I mean, what are they going to do, give me some incurable disease? > 6) When I have to use a wheelchair I can freak people out by sitting indian style. - Try it, it really throws people for some reason. > 7) I'm now so thin that my doctors have ordered me to eat ice cream and cake and french fries and anything else I can think of that will give me some calories. > 8) I've discovered that trying to think of new acronyms for PSC takes up oodles of time and can be quite entertaining.
