Spanish Language Assessments

Hello, Everyone--

There have been several messages lately about Spanish language interpreter

competency.

Here at Oregon Pacific Area Health Education Center (AHEC) we have developed

a language assessment tool that is being used by area providers (hospitals

and health departments) to assess the verbal and written skills of employees

currently interpreting. It has also been used as a candidate screening tool

for applicants to interpreter courses. While it cannot not certify anyone

as an interpreter, it has been developed according to TOFL standards to

assess basic language skills.
