Husband admitted to hospital with bile duct infection

Well after spending 3 days lying on the couch with a fever around 102 that just

wouldn't go

below 100, I took my super stubborn husband to the ER today. He had just

finished some

antibiotics for bronchitis. They did a urine test, a chest xray and a bunch of

blood work. The

good news is, the xray and urine test were both fine. The bad news, his

bilirubin was 14!

That's the highest it's ever been. I knew it had to be off the charts. He was

the most horrid

shade of yellow I have ever seen. The whites of his eyes are even yellow. And

his urine looks

like apple cider. They've got him on 2 pretty potent antibiotics and will do an

ERCP tomorrow.

He's not in any pain other than a head ache which I suspect is from the high

fever and being

so dehydrated. His appetite was good and until his fever started spiking he was

in pretty

good spirits. Unless the we get the really bad weather they're predicting

tomorrow, I plan on

heading down there after I drop our daughter off at school. He's used to me

staying with him

but usually he goes to our local hospital where he works. From now on he will be

going to

the hospital where he will eventually have his transplant. We both feel much

better about his

care there just for the fact that they have a whole slew of hepatologists who

are familiar with

psc. At our local hospital, WE have to explain to the medical staff what it is.

I hope he's better

soon and is able to come home in a few days.

Actually for me the apple cider color urine is one of my 1st signs. If I notice it happening at home I start chugging as much water as I can, even it I end up in the bathroom peeing a lot. I am hoping that I can avert it going much further.

And once my bilirubin hits about 3.0 you can actually see the yellow in the whites of my eyes pretty well. My GI always looks at me and says "nice shade of yellow in your eyes.

Good luck and you are in my thoughts and prayers,
