New ADEK vitamins

A few months ago my pharmacy told me that

the ADEK vitamins I take currently are going to be obsolete and will be

replaced with something else. These ADEK vitamins were the only vitamin formula

that had the fat soluable vitamins in one tablet. I still have a few bottles

left since I stocked up on them….

The replacement is now announced. It

appears that it is for Cystic Fibrosis patients and has a dosage that is a lot

higher than the current one. I attached the insert.

Can some of you please comment on the

amounts of ADEK vitamins you take? If I remember well too much vitamin A can be

toxic. The amount of vitamin A is triple the amount I took before. I can

compensate that by taking one tablet instead of two a day, but then I will be

getting less of the other vitamins.

Keep in mind that the daily intake recommendations are for " normal " adults.

Typically, those with active UC/Crohn's exhibit nutrient malabsorption issues,

and require higher doses. Also, medications can affect uptake. For example, I

take the higher dose of folic acid to compensate for the effects of

sulfasalazine, which I take for UC.

Hi Chaim,

Here is a link to what I think to be a nice chart that shows the

recommended daily intake for each vitamin and the upper daily intake

levels. Hope it helps.

Agreed. I was just posting this as a starting point. When I was

Vitamin A defecent, I was takeing 3000 units twice daily until I came

bace into the normal range. I have been able to remain in the normal

range for the last year by taking a higher quality prenatal vitamin.

I have found a new vitamin that is actually made for people who have

IBD, I decided to try it because it is made specifically to be absorbed

in people that have problems with absorption of ADEK, plus it has high

levels of the B vitamins that we have problems with.

here is a link to it-it can be ordered online---

I have been on it for about a month so far
