Guest guest
: Do you think we are just having nightmares? I am opting for the least dangerous choice...either that or some sort of sleep apnea? Well, at least I'm not the only one that experiences this. The " trying " to wake up is the scariest part...I can feel myself violently shaking my head for what seems like forever until I eventually snap out of " it " and wake up but it seems as if every time I have an episode like this, it takes longer and longer to wake up. Plus, mine always happens at around 2 or 3 am. Thanks for the feedback:) ~Lynne --- Blueberry kmnewberry@...> wrote: > I have dreams where I can't breath, and all I can do > is *try* to wake up, > this happened 2 nights ago....I fear that if I don't > wake myself up in time > that I WILL stop breathing. Guest guest
Lynne, I did some reading on this a while ago. The waking up and not being able to move part. From what I understand, when you're in REM sleep, your body becomes somewhat paralyzed(your brain does this for you), to prevent you from thrashing about in your sleep. Sometimes, if you wake abruptly, right from a dream or nightmare, your brain hasn't released your body yet, and you feel paralyzed. It is scary. I've had it happen with a few nightmares. I found that if you can just relax and stop fighting, you regain control of your muscles much quicker. I'm not sure how this applies to having an out of body experience, but like you said, perhaps it was all a dream. I will look and see which sleep book I found this info in, and let you know. Hope this helps. Have a good day,
