Guest guest
Well after a LONG 2 months that have seemed like an ETERNITY, my wonderful husband, was officially listed today. The doctor told us this morning that if his colonoscopy came back ok that he'd gotten approval from the lead transplant surgeon as well as Chris's hep to go ahead and list him. He had the colonoscopy about 1 and we got the news he'd been listed at 4:45. We shouted joyfully, thanked God and cried. They tell patients the waiting list is typically 3-6 months which from what I understand is pretty short. One of his nurses today told me that they get patients from all over the world because they have such a short waiting list. (If you're anywhere near the midwest, come to IU!) Yesterday was a very rough day for him. He was in incredible pain and they would not give him anything for it because the docs were afraid the pain meds would interfere with the colonoscopy prep. He finally got pain meds at 7 this morning. He has had NO pain whatsoever today. He's been in really good spirits, got the PICC line he'd been asking for all week and the icing on the cake was being listed! They've cultured and tested everything and cannot find any reason for his fever. They switched his antibiotic yesterday and his fever immediately went away and he hasn't had one since. I've said all week I thought it was related to his meds. Hopefully if he doesn't get one again for the next few days, they'll send him home. Please keep us in your prayers. Also, keep the donor family in your prayers. I don't have to tell any of you what it means to know that someone made the ultimate sacrifice so that you can live. What an amazing and humbling gift!
