? I got sick one long

weekend and though it was the flu went

to the Dr. and she thought that it was fibro she took some blood did

some tests and had it confirmed.

What sort of blood tests did she take that would confirm that you had fibro?

As far as I am aware, the only sure way to diagnose fibro is the tender or

trigger points. I would like to know what these blood tests were.

Take care,

Irene

Hello everyone, I am new/returning. As for blood tests my doc did the

same thing in the beginning and it was a test for Epstine Bar. I prob

spelled that wrong but you know what I mean. I was also tested with the

pressure points and came oh so close to punching the doc's lights out.

Anyone/Most of you, who have had this done knows exactly what I am

talking about. Now they have the brain scans that prove Fibro. On a

scale of 1 - 10 with this monster I am an 8 most of the time. So my

quality of life is not much. I take one day at a time and do the best I

can. I have a daughter who is almost 14 and I have to keep going for

her. I have sent her everything I have been able to get my hands on

about the disease but from time to time when I am not feeling well and

can't do something she wants me to all I hear is " MOM! YOU'RE ALWAYS

SICK! " Well I can't help it. I didn't ask for this thing. Mine came

from being hit by a drunk driver. My life as I knew it ended that day.

What I have left is hard and difficult and northing I ever even had a

nightmare about. If you had told me back then that I would live out my

life in pain everyday I would have called you a lier. But here I am.

Anyway, enough about that. Right now I am taking Fioricette for the

headaches, Darvocette for the back and muscle pain, and on a daily basis

I take Paxil. Right now the Paxil seems to be controlling things fairly

well. I am still really tired all the time even though I now take

Ambien to sleep at night. And my immune system is all wacked out right

now. I am just getting over the sinus infection from hell and had

bronchitis before that. That took one round of antibiotics and the

sinus infection took two rounds to get rid of. I can say that for some

freaky reason my finger nails grow really well now but never did before.

Always thing and chipped or pealed and now are strong and grow like

weeds. LOL At least one good thing came out of getting this disease, I

don't have to pay for tips anymore and everyone loves my nails and

compliments on how they wish theirs were like mine, LOL. My hair is dry

as hay and my skin is another story all together. We won't go there.

Most of the time I just wear it up in a pony tail because it has taken

on a mind of its own. All I can say is that I take one day at a time

and struggle just to get to the end of each day one hour at a time. For

now I am super beat and am going to go to bed. But that's my story.

I'm hoping to learn more from you guys and maybe we can help each other

in some ways.

Age range: 30

Male/female: female

What are the symptoms? pain, knots in muscles especially in my back,

fatigue, irritability.

Has you illness been diagnosed? yes

How long did you suffer before you got help? not sure, I don't

remember

Is there a time that you can remember when it started? no

Some of us have found lack of exercise we are overweight. Have you

found this to be a problem

also? yes, although since my depression has gotten worse, I am

starting to lose weight.lol

Are you on disability? working for it

If you are any pointers for others trying to get on disability? If

you are going to try, I was told

that getting your hours cut to almost nothing right away will help.

You can make up to $700.00

per month.

What have you found that helps ease the pain, warm baths, medications

etc.? Unfortunately I

have not found anything that eases the pain, a warm bath or reading

anything to get my mind off

it.

Do you have sleep problems? How do you deal with it? Yes, ambien has

worked for me in the

past, currently I am not taking anything, I do try to take my muscle

relaxers as close to

bedtime as possible.

Do you have family that understands your illness? I think that my

father is starting to believe

me, I dont think my husband believes me, or my mother- she thinks its

all in my head, lol

Some have found certain foods causes problems with CFS or Fibro, have

you? I havent tried

this yet.

What type of Doctor have you found that has helped you the most? I

havent found one.

You can apply after being disabled for 6 months but I waited 'cuz I

had high expectations of getting my LTD money. >>

**I too used short term disability and expected to use long term after that.

Imagine my surprise when the people ate Long Term told me that in order to

utilize it, I was not allowed to have seen a Dr for the same thin twice

within a one year period!!!!!

That made no sense to me. Why else would you want Long Term unless a Dr said

you needed that time? According to their rules of providing Long Term it must

be an Immediate need....like a car accident or heart attack. Guess this rules

out the years many of us wander from Dr to Dr trying to determine why we are

having such pain and problems. LOL

So, many people are out there paying for this insurance thinking they can use

it when they may not be able to. I'd advise one and all to check with the

insurance company to see what their requirements are or you might get a

sudden shock!

I'd also advise people to buy the Disability insurance that is offered by any

credit card, or loans you may have. It's a small amount each month and it

sure saved my rear when I was suddenly out of work forever. Once you're on

disability it's redundant to buy it, but better to be prepared for the

future. That insurance paid the monthly payment on quite a few credit cards,

as well as my house payment. Spending months waiting for SSDI to kick in, I

had no income to pay those bills and would have ended up in bankruptcy.

Peace.....
