Guest guest
I am not certin that my Doctor did the right tests. Could anyone tell me if any of these tests are the free T's Thyroxin (T4) --- Is this Total T4? T3 Uptake --- seems like I have been told this is a useless test Free Thyroxin Index --- Is this Free T4? T3 --- Is this free T3? I questioned the Dr. about this and she assured me that the free T's were in this group. Does she even have a clue? If these are not the Real Free t's can you tell me what they are called? Just Free T4 and Free T3 or something more scientific? Cluckymom
Guest guest
You got part of what is called the " Thyroid Panel " and it's totally USELESS and done by docs who are like cattle in a shute. You got total T4, Free T4 and the idiotic uptake. You will need to ask for the Free T3 and the Free T4, period. And if it's a first time to check for thyroid problems, include an antibodies test, plus Ferritin at the very least. Janie > I am not certin that my Doctor did the right tests. Guest guest
FreeT3 and FreeT4 are the 'unbound' hormones in your body for your cells to use. T3 and T4 are bound hormones and are affected by other things. Now that FreeT3 and FreeT4 (much more sensitive tests) are available, there is really no reason to not take those, as opposed to T3 and T4 (dr has to do a calculation to figure that one out), which is what I call a guesstimation. FreeT3 and FreeT4 tell the whole story. I did a search earlier on the Total T3 and came up with a site that explained it, but it's still a poor choice of tests for a dr to use in my opinion. SandyE~Houston Did Doc. really test the free T's? I am not certin that my Doctor did the right tests. Could anyone tell me if any of these tests are the free T's Thyroxin (T4) --- Is this Total T4? Guest guest
Free Thyroxine Index (FTI) is an ESTIMATE of the free T4. I believe it's calculated by multiplying the uptake by total thyroxine. > Free Thyroxin Index --- Is this Free T4?
