Guest guest
Hi Marisol, Sorry to hear about the crown and about how you feel. Hope you get better soon, if not, check if the drs can give you anything to help at least the feeling in your stomach. Do they have any system in place which would help you with fixing the tooth? You may have had the intubation tube if your throat hurts like that - that's what caused it with my son. My son had an ERC and colonoscopy yesterday and he, too, was feeling like crap (he does not know all that much English yet but one word he knows is crap and that is the one he used...), first because of the intubation tube had hurt his throat so much he could not speak for a couple of hours. Then, because of the air inside him, and eventually, because of all the things they had done inside (most likely the ERC) he started hurting like hell after he had his first bites to eat. This happened even though is amylase was normal four hours after the procedure unlike after the previous ERC. But after a dose of oxinorm, he was quite painless and very (!) happy and cheerful. He even could eat some more in the evening and slept well through the night. This is the morning after, and if he can now eat normally, he (we) will be released today. It looks good at this point and I am keeping my fingers crossed. Dr Farkkila who performed the ERC said Eemeli's PSC is progressing but slowly and he had " ballooned " several extrahepatic ducts. In one of the intrahepatic ones there is a very strict stricture that they could get no instrument to get through but they got brushings there so after the pathology report comes, we'll know more about that. But it must be " just another stricture " since all Eemeli's labs except for ALP are ok (even CA 19-9). But a lot of the intrahepatic ducts were narrowed already in the previous ERC a year ago. The colon is fine except for some swelling. We'll get the biopsy results of that later, too. Interesting system, though: the ERC was performed in the " adult " endoscopy unit and Eemeli was hurried under anesthesy to the adjacent children's hospital through the tunnels under the hospitals for the colonoscopy. If no complications follow from the double procedure as it seems now, this was great! Sorry for the long story, I have just been so worried about this whole double procedure. Now I can think ahead again! I guess I mentioned this already but it would be so interesting to take part in the Monothematic PSC Conference in Oslo where Dr Farkkila is going to co-chair the session where one of the topics is Endoscopic treatment in PSC - a critical appraisal. So much more interesting now. Guest guest
Hi Marisol, I really hope the hospital covers the broken crown - at least partly if they refuse to take all the blame for it. I will keep my fingers crossed that they pay for all of it! I am all for not taking any unnecessary medication but in Eemeli's case one dose of oxinorm took the pain away (although I thought it would not be enough seeing him cramping with pain and whining which he does not do easily although he is 12). When the pain was away, he could move and that helped get the air out of his system. The ERC was on Thursday and today (Saturday) he was out chopping some wood. Unbelievable. I can't keep up: first all the preop stuff, hospital crap (changing rooms twice the first night in the middle of the colonsteril drinking among other things), two procedures in one day, the bad pain episode and worry about possible pancreatitis, roommate having high fever and fainting one night most likely due to a side-effect of cipro (I was in the room and the nurse needed help) - and today, the my kid is chopping wood like nothing out of the ordinary ever took place. What was the new machine they used for your ERC? Do you know what was different about it or did they just not know how to use it without hurting your throat?
